Ok, I have a cute story from last Thursday. On Thursdays I don't have to take my little one anywhere (she has classes on other days) so we tend to have a more relaxed morning, sometimes lounging in our pajamas. Last Thursday I told my daughter to stay in her pj's because we were going to have a bath after breakfast. I took the time to lay out some clothes for her to wear later. After breakfast my daughter went up to her room to play so I went on the computer a for a little while. When I was finished I went up to her room. She was fully dressed - but not in the clothes I had laid out! In fact she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt despite the fact that there was frost on the ground outside. I asked her what happened to the clothes I had laid out for her. Her reply "I put them away" It is just amazing how three year olds have a logic all thier own.

^^^ Great stuff! Let's hope that she put them away somewhere where they can be found in the future! Often, our three-year old 'puts things away' in places that seem to be obscure to say the least.

Logic? I wouldn't call it logic, just a different way of thinking. My daughter would just have put the clothes on her bear or rabbit. She is generally more concerned that her stuffed animals not be cold than she is about herself, she is so selfless. Except for her Barbie. Someone got her a Barbie for her last birthday (10 months ago) and I have not seen the Barbie's clothes since then. Why do Barbies always end up naked? Is this not ironic, seeing how they are designed? |

^^^ It may be ironic, I don't know. But my children--both boys and girls--have always wanted to take the clothes off of their dolls, stuffed animals, what have you--it seems to be something that *has* to occur.

Barbie clothes are difficult to put on. My daughter does not have the skill to do it yet. That's why they are always left naked. |

^^^ Excuse me? Many parents, including myself, do not have the skills to put those back on! |

If only more women took that attitude that their clothing was too difficult to put on and just gave up and went naked. |

Ok, today's cute story. My kids were eating melba toast at breakfast today. Some of the pieces were already broken in half and my elder daughter announced in typical older sister fashion to her sister "you get the broken ones" to which my little one right away screamed "no" Well, I told the older one that both would get some broken ones. So she handed out the crackers. I looked over and saw the little one had all pieces broken in half. So I asked my older one about it. She said "but I gave her whole ones!". She then handed her over one more piece which the little one calmly broke in half immediately!

^^^ Minuet, Wonderful. That three-year old seems quite intelligent. Very clever indeed. Does she have a stubborn streak?

Both my children have stubborn streaks just like thier parents. However, the three year old is not nearly as stubborn as the 10 year old. My older daughter is definitely "gifted" scholastically and has the temperment that often goes along with that type of brain. My little one can be stubborn at times but has a much easier going temperment. |

^^^ Our ten-year old is also quite stubborn. But she has learned to temper that somewhat, esp. since her allowance (given to our little ones for the work that they do around the home) is in jeopardy when she chooses otherwise.

We've been coaxing and monitoring my 19 month old for sentences that contain more than one word recently and we think that we have heard her say a few. Anyway, last night the wife made chocolate chip cookies and I gave a piece of one to the 19mo and after that we both swear we heard her say 'I want more cookies'. Perhaps it is a matter of motivation? I know that she understands much more than she speaks. On a side note, we have to be careful not to use the words 'bath' or 'teeth' in a sentence as this will send the 19mo running for the bathroom wanting to take a bath or brush her teeth. It is quite adorable. She stands on the stool at the sink saying "teeth, teeth, teeth..." or she goes to the tub and starts trying to strip. |
