My daughters love "My Little Ponies." In fact, they like them so much, that I'm seriously considering buying stock in the franchise. (I mean, they can't be the only ones that enjoy them immensely!) |

We have a favorite blankie as well. It is a quilted white comforter. My older daughter was still using it at bedtime when she was 7 years old. I convinced her to give it up as a special present to the new baby when I was pregnant. Now the little one still carries it all over the house. It is small and barely covers her - but it just has the right feel and smell to cuddle up with. My mother in law recently knit a beautiful afgan for my daughter to use instead. It sits in a corner of her room unused

^^^ Yeah, we have some gorgeous blankets too that are not used. I don't know what it is--sometimes they go for the raggedy-like ones over the pristine.... |

My grandmother knitted me such a blanket when I was about 7 years old and it is one of my prize possesions.

Our three-year old recently received a comforter in the mail (from relatives). When she opened it, she said, "It's not all purple, it's every purple." Translation: It consisted of many shades of her favorite color, purple--and wasn't one solid color.

The process of learning a language from not having one and learning to express your thoughts in language amazes me. Basically, from no previous knowledge or frame of reference we learn to understand one another and express thoughts in understandable language to each other. It is just so powerful that it is awe-inspiring to observe a small child going through this process and seeing how they explore expression like this. It is also cute, Fes. I wouldn't trade parenthood for all the gold in Ft. Knox.

^^^ Neither would I. I like how children frequently learn the rule (of grammar), yet have trouble with the application. For example, I 'catched' the ball.

But was that after it sat around your room unused for many years?

Mostly, I just keep it in a closet so it is not damaged. I covered up from time to time with it along the way. It is not very fun to be covered up with the thing in the summer time. There are a lot of things that children don't appreciate but when they get older (and mature a bit) and look back in reflection begin to change their attitudes. I don't think that you should expect a child or adolesent to behave like a mature adult. |

My nearly three year old daughter is in the stage of loving band-aids. Yesterday, she carried one around in it's wrapper all evening. This morning, she complained that she couldn't find it. I told her she needs to start getting in the habit of putting things away in the same place so she knows where to find them. (Ok, I know that's not realistic for her yet, but it doesn't hurt to start teaching the concept.) So I said, "If you put your balls away in your toy box then you will know where to find your balls the next time. And if you put your band-aid on your bookshelf, then..." At this point she interrupted me and said "And on my boo-boo too!"

^^^ We have band-aids with Dora The Explorer on them. My daughter is constantly telling me she is bleeding when she is not just to get a band-aid. |
