So far we have had three white male, one black male, and one white female captain in the various Star Trek series.

What do you think the next will be?

Should there be a non human Captain in a future series?

There should always be a human captain. As for who it should be, what about a black women captain. That would be a risk taking move.

Is there a reason all Captains should be human?

Isn't it going with the whole nature of the show that there should be non human captains one day? As far as I can tell we've only seen two non human captains in the series or movies. Spock - who eventually received his promotion, and the Vulcan Captain of Sisko's ship at the battle of Wolf359.

I just think as star trek is about the exploration of humanity into the unknown, the leader should be a human. I guess it could work with an alien captain, but it just wouldn't resonate. Of course in the interest of keeping an open mind, It might be interesting if there was an alien captain.

There are plenty of alien captains, there have been a Bolian captain in Conspiracy for one, Captain Solok for two, and loads of others mentioned (Captain Boday - DS9) I'm sure there have been others on screen too.

I think its way past time we saw an Hispanic main character or Captain first, we saw Captain Rodriguez in ENT very briefly, but I think thats been about it

I think it's time for an Aussie Captain :D . Or at the very least, an Aussie main character.

I'll grant you that I may have missed a few. However, I mean as the captain of the featured Starship/Base in a future series . . .

I third the motion!

As a Kiwi I believe that an Aussie captain could be considered alien enough to qualify for this post. . . :wave2:

How about an Aussie captain and a Kiwi first officer? The USS. ANZAC perhaps?

Ok so this is my whole theory on Captains. First we have an American, a foreigner (to Americans that is), an African American man, a woman and then an American again. Do we cont. with the pattern? Or do something else.

As for race, it has to be human for the simple fact of the viewers. If a person that never watched Star Trek before sees a Vulcan as Captain, they won't get it at all. They would say things like 'why is he/she so unemotional and mean!!' and probably not watch the show.

One thing that bugged me a little when ENT first started was the ommision of a russian character.

If starfleet was in the beginning a truly global organization that means all the superpowers of the world would combine to make the project successful and the crew would reflect that, but we get one malayasian born Brit, 2 americans , 2 aliens, Hoshi who was born in Japan but must have lived in america for a while, and Mayweather who was an off-worlder with a strong american accent.

The outcome of the trek version of WWIII is unclear, amybe some of the superpowers were wiped out, but otherwise The russians, Chinese, US and ESA would have been the big contributers to such a project, and these contributors would want a representitive on the first starship

i.e the crew of ENT wasnt international enough
