Good to know you made it through Gaza Yo-Yo. Hopefully you won't find yourself immediately in harms way anytime soon, but if you must you will remain in our prayers. Have fun playing with the new toys! I mean, ahem, testing the new technologies...

I am a tank driver and the excercises was large imagniary war involving sevral battalions and companies that started by the Kinneret (that lake in notheren israel) to 50 k from the syrian border. That meant alot alot of drving! The merkava tank and drive almost anywhere up mountains and down in sand mud and for the golan rocks. I drove over field full of bolders what fun!For the passover holiday we all got a week vacation After which we are being sent to the west bank to work as infantry for about a month and then sent to the northern border in tanks to face down with hizbullah That's the story for now! Hi everybody. Sorry i haven't been able to post in a while. I am doing infantry wrok in the west bank and there was a massive terrorist warning. For over a month we were running around like nuts searching for the terrorists. In the end we managed to apprehend them and their little ring before there primary and major attack could be done. It was a gruling month and i got the weekend off. When i get back i am receiving special training to hand and fire the m-203 grenade launcher. I was supposed to be released fom the army a month ago but I feel a great importance in the work i do and i feel a bit wasteful that most of my combat service was spent in the excersices testing out new techs that i had mentioned before. So i have decided to extend i decided to extend my service until the end of july. I am a soldier for a few more months! |

Sounds like you have been working hard. After July are you staying in Israel or moving back to Toronto/Thornhill? |

After the army i will spend a month studying in a yeshiva and then i will return to toronto to finish my degree. Technically i am required to be outside Israel for two years after the army anyhow. After my degree i intend to immigrate (make aliyah) to Israel. |

I am suprised about all the rules connected to being in the army. They put a lot of time, money and effort into training you and then tell you that you have to stay out of the country for 2 years? And you have only been there for a year.

Hi everybody i'm sorry i dont post so much and that i only post in this topic but in the army i just dont have the time! No i didn't know that doctortobe is in the army wasn't he in before? Did he go back as a reserve? Where is he serving? I wish him the best of luck. This past month has been very active. The past week in particular. Over the month due to the coming of the evacuation of gaza and the palestinian school kids were on a month vacation there was an extreme rise in violence. There were gun shots and a sever terrorist warning, even some molotov cocktails were thrown; one at one of our jeep patrols. But most of the attacks were predominantly rocks being thrown at israeli pedestrians and motorists. Don't be mistaken a thrown rock can injure and kill as easily as a bullet. It was decided enough was enough and something had to be done. The problem is that there was not much that could be done. The kids, teens, and adults that threw rocks often disappeared minutes after the act. Even if you catch one what do you do? The only option was to increase activity in the army to show that we are active. That meant i was doing 8 hours duty 8 off and 8 back on constantly doing jeep routes and foot partols and roads blocks. It wokred for a while but hten the palestinians got used to it and violence increased. They even attacked our foot patrols who could not fire back because there was no definite threat to thier lives. A teen was identifed in a palestinian town who was the ring leader for rock throwing. It was decided to apprehend him to scared the town and the nieghboring towns out of commiting more attacks. A small team was sent to infiltrate the town without being noticed. A armoured jeep would be sent in. When the ring leader came out with a rallied group of stone thrower we rush out of hiding. He managed to get into his home so were surrounded it and demanded him to come out. He eventually came out and was put into the armoured jeep that spead out of hte town and back to base. Mission accomplished with one problem. the four of us were stuck in hte middle of a palestinian town where everyone was out side and angry. We basically ran for our lives in full gear throwing stun grenades were we had to. We got out without having to fire a single shot which was absolutely forbidden anyhow. We got out okay and back to base thoroughly exaughsted. The teen was treated very well so dont jump to conclusions somerland. He was tanen to base hand cuffed and blind folded. The first thing he saw was a doctor and the next thing was to be fed. We was already scared to death the moment we charged him in the town. He was led around the base handcuffed and blindfolded and asked alot of questions to scare him. after four hours of being with us we returned him to his town. The people of the town took him back eagerly and promised that there wont be anymiore stone throwing. Were pretty sure they got the message but they will probably forget it in a few weeks. The disturbing thing we when we returned him and left the last thing seen was the teen's family beating him! Well thats the story. I tell it because im not afraid to. I know it was absolutely necessary and was done in the most humane way. No one was injured and ot property was damaged. But for a few minutes in the town it was one of the scariest moments in my life. WE are moving out of the this area nad going back to tanks. My company and battloin are considured onew of the most professional so we are being sent back into the ehjart of Gaza where the terrorst activity has heated up into levels unseen and we continue to climb until the evacuation of the jewish settlements. This is bcause the terrorists want have extremely high moral and motiviation knowing that the years of terror has actually payed off and they want us to look like we're running under fire. I will be in the middle of it until be relase from hte army. Well, i've typed enough take care! |
