Hey everybody i tried to post on the old topic about me and the IDF but i couldn'ty find it!

Its been a crazy month i finish basic train with 'war week' which is a whole week in hte feild with out watches where we run and crawl around on sharp rocks with little sleep or food and with atleast 50 lbs of gear on us (for hte lucky ones) for a whole week! At the end we had a 10 km hike in full gear straight through the night to get back to base. :whew:

Once we got there we had a wild and manly ceremony and our batallion commander commened us because we were going to strat training to use the Merkava 3 main battle tank! Then by 6 am we got time to sleep.

Before i hit the sack a officer came up to me and ask "are you a lone soldier?" Thats a sldier that is in the army without any family or support in the country. ie. me. i said yes nad he told me i had to report to the auditorium in formal wear by 8:30 am for a ceremony for lone soldier with the division commander (the equivalent of god). So in the ned i got only 2 hours sleep after war week and a 10km hike through the night. After the nice ceremony that i sleep walked through of course the day carried on as usual becuse no one else (other than the 30 other lone soldier in the division) had to get up at 8:30! :thud:

The next day however my sergent take me to the side and tells me "there was a huge error and 90 soldier were taken into basic training when there is only room for 60 in tank training. We have to let g of 30 and you are one of them!"

Just like that they sent me away from a combat unit to be a "jobnik" because there were not other combat positions available. I cired that day. But i also fought i called every connection i knw and demanded an interview all the way up the liune. with my unit commander, platoon commander, and then my batallion comander. I was a volunteer with a 97 profile the DID get the highest marks in my unit for shooting and wokring in hte feild.

They told me that the problem was my hebrew because i wasn't a born hebrew speaker. I knew that was garbage because thought sometines i din't under stand some (i would ask and they would explain it to me) genrally i was perfectly fine and my hebrew was inproving eery day. THe platoon commander told me it was dangerous when i get to combat to have bad hebrew. I told him there was not problem until not and in another 6 months when i finish all the training i KNOW i will be pefectly fine. He didn't have much to say to that and so mumbled that he still tihnks my hebrew needs imporvement (whne htere are 7 other foreigners in my platoon of whome my hebrew is better than some) so he is sending me to a medics course! everyone laughed when i told then that afterwards (i knew not to laugh in hte platoon comannders face) becauseveryone know the hebrew in medics course is the HARDEST there is! :banghead:

Anywys i live hte life of a 'jobnik' for three days but still kept fighting unti they called me in and said i'm back in.

I was so happy even though i missed a week of classes. I am a driver and drving a tank is just so AWSOME! :woohoo:

THis past week my family came to visit me so i hade to bug my commanding officer alot to get itme off to see them. Eventually they gave me this week off. I'm really happy right now!

Take care everyone! i hope to post again as soon as i can!

Yo-Yo It's great to hear from you, although I am suprised to be hearing from you on Simchat Torah - at least it is still the holiday here. If the holiday is over there then it must be Shabbat already.

Since I haven't heard from you since before Rosh Hashana please let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Shana Tova.

Hey everyone. Actually Min in Israel the only have one day of holiday instead of two. The two days is something Diaspora Jews took upon themselves over a thousand years ago because of something having to do with being unsure of the times of holidays. Today with everything calculated that is not an issue but the two holiday rule for Diaspora is too deeply ingrained into the religious system. For me in Israel that meant i had the friday before the sabbath free! :woohoo:

I hope you will behave ethically and morally in your dealings while in the IDF , and keep your head down.

What is are you likely to do if you are ordered to do something that is not moral or unjust ? (This could involve settlers or Palestinians or demonstrators.)

I already answered this question a while ago. I had been in the idf and know people who had been in all places and all facets (tanks, infantry, security, etc..) The IDF operates on highly ethical and moral basis (i gave tons of examples before but am not upto writing them all over again.) but as an army they of course must still kill (terrorists) and that they do. I have no moral problem with that though the idea of killing a person is not something i am confortable with nor look forward to.

If faced with a moral dilema (israel, palestinian, or demonstrators) which a doubt will occur as i said before, i'll walk my self to jail. I have also some to understand that in way confusion exists and there is alot of 'fog' it could very with end up that i am faced with a child brandishing a automatic rifle or a bomb. Would it be imoral to kill him to save my life and/or the life of other soldiers/innocents? That could be debated but i beleive killing him would be the only right option (if you cant talk him out of it of course or etc) but such an act would probably haunt me for they rest of my life. Would oyu brand me an imooral monster is i was focred to do such as thing?

Worth asking again as you have now been indoctrinated and are now part of that organisation.

I guess that you went to the jerk academy and got indoctrinated there? Just basing this on recent observation.

My moral standing has not deceased but my appreciation for the IDF and what they are about has grown.
