I jst watched Generations again, i love this film.

But, at the end, when Picad and Riker are standing on the smashed Bridge and Riker was saying how much he will "miss this ship", Picard dosn't even seem remotely bothered that his ship, that i assume he loves (In a way) and the flagship of the fleet has just been reduced to a steaming pile of scrap metal.

Even i got a bit emotonal when i saw that for the firt time, but not a single emotion from Picard. He almost made a Vulcan look hppy in comparison.

Riker looked more upset!

Any thoughts?

I think that's because Picard knows (and like Gene Roddenberry knew) that there are many more letters in the alphabet. :)

Well we saw the reaction on Kirk's face when he used his beloved ship to seek revenge on the Klingons in The Search For Spock. I got the impression Picard isn't as obessed with the ship as Kirk. Nonetheless he did feel a bit sad when the Enterprise got trashed by Klingons.

Or maybe Picard was hiding his emotions.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
I always got the impression that Picard was much more devoted to safe-guarding the lives of the crew than the ship.

If half the crew was lost, but he ship was intact (First Contact), I would expect him to behave differently.

I think Picard's personality leaves him so isolated that he really did feel bad for the ship, but tried not to show it. Also, he was more loyal to his crew (Not to mention he did brake down when he heard the news about his family) than the ship. Breaking down twice might have been a sign of weakness and that's not who picard was.

Quite true about his breaking down, though one scene with Picard in tears in his ready room was cut from the initial video release because critic's trashed it being in the theatrical version (perhaps it has been retored to later versions of video?).

He had been through a lot in a few days, it's possible that he might just have been numb, or in shock by the time he returned to the crashed Enterprise-D. Not a wholly unrealistic prospect.

No, i suppose it isn't unreasonable.

I bet he was gutted deep down. But, about breaking down, only he and Riker were on the ship at the end, surely he is good enough friends with Riker to show a hint of emotion.

Honestly, I don't like this one that much. It's not unwatchable or anything, but it was a pretty big let down for me. It made Kirk seem like a big loser, which I didn't like, however, we did get to see the B and Sulu's daughter at the helm.

Here's a brain crusher for you: If Picard could leave the nexus at any point in time, why didn't he leave when or just before Soren asked him to allow him to return to the space station aboard the Enterprise? :ermm:

Because they wanted the fans to see Kirk kick ass one last time. :D

And, it would have been a pretty dull story. But, if you wat to use conjecture, we could just say that Picard wasn't thinking straight!

I think it had something to do with the point of entry. CIP - Kirk being trapped in the Nexus and finding himself reliving his memories on his uncle's farm for years without realizing time had no meaning in the Nexus. Picard being swept into this undefined universe where he had the chance to live and experience his fantasy - Beverly becoming his wife, his nephew being alive and children he know he would never have.
