I don't think that Lennon wrote terrible music, it was good for a hum. What I disagree with is everyone talking about him as though he is one of the greatest artists in history up there with Mozart and the boys. It was just mainly drug-inspired pop, nothing earth-shattering. I guess that part of this is because he was killed so glorified in the minds of so many. The Beetles in their earlier years of fame had a new and unique sound, I'll grant that, but as they wore on, they wore thin in my opinion. Lennon was among the good performers in his drug-worshiping genre in his time, but he wasn't the modern-day equivolent to Bach, Mozart or Beethoven the way so many try to make him out to be. |

I think his anti-war messages were very poignant and a real sign of the times. He was a great man. |

Poigniant? or poorly thought out. Yeah, give peace a chance, while the communists roll through one country after another funded and supported by the Soviets and Chinese. blah, blah, blah. Just narrow-minded hippie rhetoric. The fight against communism was a good fight, the way it was implemented in Vietnam was not. Really, though this just gets down to a matter of opinion and we aren't likely to agree and I don't take personnal offense to it. The Shatner album is strange though. |

38957, I'll let the experts speak for themselves when it comes to the compositional quality of their music. IMO, it is the only pop music that is up there with Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. But then again, Mozart's music isn't up there with Bach's or Beethoven's, so at some level, it has to come down to a matter of degree and subjectivity. You yourself have said that you don't have the tools to discuss the compositional elements of music intelligently or intricately (I cannot recall the exact wording), so for my own part, it is best that we just agree to disagree. However, if you ever do wish to learn about their music intellectually, let me know. I have some wonderful resources that I can recommend.

It's a strange album. I heard some samples of its contents in one of the promotional booth at a record store. It almost convinced me to buy the alibum. "Almost" is the word here, folks. Speaking of which, had anyone seen Shatner's latest trick? He's the spokesman for Blockbusters now. Maybe he was so rattled by Price.com's decision to replace him with Nimoy he want to start selling videos instead? Weird. |
