A Robot in Disguise

Thought i'd start a thread on comparison between similar shows in the three 7 season series.

Now this is not a point scoring thread, thats impossible as no one is going to agree

I have listed several categories, and i have put what I think is the best examples from each series

In your replies, list ones you agree/disagree with, which ones you'd replace and how much better one similar ep is to another

--------------------------------------------------------------------

In a category all of its own:

Far Beyond the Stars.

It might surprise some of you, but I would rate this ep as the best from all three series, its not my favourite, its not the one I watch the most. But I think it is the best end result that has been produced, the costumes and sets look fabulous, the story is great, it is a very original ep, very dramatic, the whole look and feel of it is better than any other. I dont think there is another trek ep that is similar.

Funniest episode

VOY - Message in a bottle
TNG - Qpid
DS9 - Little Green Men

Hmmm, In terms of no. of laughs packed into 41 mins, I think MiaB wins here, I dont think there are really any TNG or DS9 eps mainly about laughs

Most Action packed ep

DS9 - Call to Arms
VOY - Year of Hell
TNG - Best of Both Worlds

All great eps, DS9 would win in this category, you cant beat those big battlefleet scenes

Best Tear jerker

TNG - Inner Light
DS9 - The Visitor
VOY - Homestead

I couldnt decided between Lifesigns and Homestead for Voyager, Lifesigns is more depressing than a tear jerker, Homestaed is the one that makes me well up most in Voyager, but thats only the last 5 mins.

I think Inner light wins here, that one always gets me, but some Niners will disagree

Best Romantic episode

VOY - Drive - Tom / B'elanna
DS9 - WYLB - Odo / Kira
TNG - Attached - Picard / Crusher

Drive is my choice, but Tom and B'elanna never had a goodbye scene, Odo in his tux, ya cant beat that. Hard to choose with TNG, maybe 'Lessons' rather than 'Attached' but neither as good as Drive or WYLB

Best Holodeck ep

DS9 - Our man Bashir
VOY - Worst case scenario
TNG - Emergence

I prefered Emergence to Ship in a bottle, Our Man Bashir was a lot of fun, I picked WCS as that is one of the few holodeck eps where the holodeck doesnt break down, and I picked it over Bride of Chaotica cos not everyone likes that.
No clear winner here

Best Q ep

VOY - Deathwish
TNG - Q WHO?
DS9 - Qless

Well DS9 only had one Q ep, Deathwish is my favourite Q ep, Q Who is my fav Q TNG ep as meeting the Borg is tense

Best Alien Influence ep

TNG - Conspiracy
DS9 - Homefront / Paradise lost
VOY - Coda

All good eps, hard to choose, changelings on earth is unsettling, but Coda is also scary, and Conspiracy is a great thriller

Best Time Travel ep

VOY - Relativity
TNG - Timescape
DS9 - Past Tense

Again all great eps, Relativity is my favourite

Best alternate timeline ep

DS9 - Times Orphan
VOY - Shattered
TNG - Yesterdays Enterprise

For me, Shattered wins by a mile

Most Violent ep

DS9 - Battlelines
TNG - Redemption
VOY - Nemesis

Heres wher TNG's PC nature is highlighted, I dont think they have any violent eps

Best Spy Ep

DS9 - Inter Arma enim silent leges
VOY - Manuevers
TNG - Gambit

With section 31 and all the garak eps, DS9 wins here

MVP

TNG - Patrick Stewart
VOY - Robert Picardo
DS9 - Avery Brooks / Nana Visitor

Without Stewart TNG would have suffered the most, Voyager would have suffered without Picardo, I dont think DS9 wpould have been greatly different without one of the main characters

There's a few points I'd contest.

For starters how you could say that 'The Way of the Warrior' wasn't DS9's best battle ep. stumps me. It had everything 'Call to Arms' had and more. Also I think DS9's best funny ep was 'Badda Bing Badda Bang'.

Other than that nicely done.

Far Beyond the Stars

Other than seeing all of them without thier makeup, I didn't find the episode all that remarkable.

I may have to vote for Inner Light or All Good Things as my personal choice for all around best episodes.

Well, at the very least FBtS looks the most expensive

Great post proton! You've really been on a roll lately with the interesting Trek posts. Kudos!

I wish I had more time to assess this, I should have a computer at home soon, so I can be more detailed when I'm not trying to look busy. ;)

I am really surprised you would put Far Beyond the Stars as your all time favorite. I agree. In fact, when I show a Trek episode to someone who isn't a fan, this is the first one I think of. It shows a lot of heart and soul for a sci-fi TV show and it's a very emotional and powerful episode. I am so glad you enjoy it. Give me a couple hours to answer your genre rankings.

Thanks again for the thought provoking threads Captain!

I didnt say it was my favourite, just the best quality.

If trapped on a dessert island, and I could only take one trek ep it would be 'Shattered' or 'Blink of an eye' , FBtS would be third choice.

Of course then I'd have to build a tv and VCR out of coconut shells and crab guts ;)

Hopefully you'll be stranded with the professor, Maryann and Ginger.

Pretty much every episode in Season 6 is a winner except Profit and Lace and Time's Orphan.

Time's Orphan.

I realy liked Time's Orphan, the only Keiko ep I do like.

An original deviation to all other alt timeline stories

When?

Chief O'Brien said "bollocks" at the beginning. In the UK, that is generally considered swearing.
