Should they have made so many holodeck episodes or not. They were many times kind of lame and embarassing. As well as predictable: "there has been a failure captain, the holodeck safeties are off and we're trapped inside" Dixon Hill Sherlock Holmes A Fistfuls of Datas The Barclay episode where everyone in from mideveil times and Riker is short. Fairhaven Captain Proton (sorry Captain Proton) Fairhaven I sure that there were many from DS9, but I just am not an expert on that series. And many, many more. Most of these episodes probably should not have been made and something better could have replaced them, in my opinion. |

Yes, it grew somewhat tiresome after a while. BTW, you cannot include Fairhaven twice--unless you can, since it is your post.
How come I cannot recall this episode? Do you happen to know the title? |

I included Fairhaven twice to emphasize my distaste. There was an episode about Barclay and his inferiority complex and he would go hide in the holodeck and everyone of the main characters of TNG was in there and they all loved him, Deanna especially, and Riker's double was considerably shorter than reality. I am sure that this was a subplot of an episode and not the main plot and I don't remember which one, but I bet somebody will.

The Nth Degree wasnt it? "Bride of Chaotica" wasnt really a holodeck gone wrong ep, aliens from the 5th dimension mistook the Captain Proton program for reality. And all the other time CP apperaed it wasnt cos the holodeck broke down , it was just for fun. I'm very glad Voyager had CP, otherwise my handle would have been Dawson_Stalker or something |

Thinking about it, I dont really mind most of the holodeck eps, Fairhaven I didnt mind cos of the Janeway romance ( I mean it wasnt great, but I can rewatch it) Spirit Folk ( the follow up ) was horrid BoC is of course my favourite, but other noteable mentions were: Worst Case Scenario - a good thriller Our Man Bashir - If nothing else for Kira's accent Probably the silliest was Ship in a Bottle, the symbolism was way too vague |

38957, So you don't like Fairhaven all that much? Does it rank among your least favorite episodes of TNG, or only the holodeck-oriented episodes? |

I just don't like Fairhaven on its own. It wasn't Star Trekkie, I guess, it was just we had nothing of interest going on so we came in to the holodeck to waste some time. I am just not sure I like the holodeck being introduced into Star Trek in TNG. It made for an interesting scene in First Contact, though. |

38597, Agreed--that was a superb scene, wasn't it? It ranks among the best holodeck scenes, IMO.

Our man Bashir wasn't really a "Holodeck gone wrong" episode. It was more like a "Transporter gone wrong" episode! |

^^^ And a good episode it was! I thought the pseudo-James Bond film music was quite appropriate.

'Our Man Bashir' was a 'transporter gone wrong causing the holosuite to go wrong'. And it was also one of my favourite eps. Also 'Bride of Chaotica' spawned one of my favourite lines ever in trek, Paris to Janeway: "Remember, you're the Queen!" |

I think it was the episode that introduced the Barclay character. Can't recall the title off hand... The holodeck/suite episodes were hit and miss with me. Some were very contrived(i.e. "Fistful of Datas"). Some, like the episode referring to Barclay, weren't so bad. Here you had a guy (Barclay) with problems relating to people in the real world so he would retreat to a fantasy world. |

I loved a fist full of Datas. One of my favorite episodes. I do however chalk it up as one of the whimisical ones. I also liked the Shirlock Holmes episodes though. I think that many holodek episodes were a waste of time, and like you said predictable. "Oh no we are trapped inside the holodeck with the safety turned off" |

A Fistful of Datas was somewhat thought-provoking, I thought. But I'm a softie when it comes to Westerns....
