Why or why not? Crap. I should have put Liberal and Conservative as the choices. Can someone change that? Until it is changed let's say Yes = Liberal and No = Conservative. Sorry. |

Yes, they are mostly liberal. Why? Because after Star Trek, the stories became quite PC. But that didn't stop me from liking the show tremendously.

I voted liberal as well. The PC stuff, the treatment of Religion (although DS9 was a little more conservative come to think of it) come to mind. |

This show is very libral. I mean it leans almost communistic if you think about it, but that doesn't stop my enjoyment of any of the series. To tell you the truth, if it wasn't as extreme as some cases may be for trek, I would rather live in trek's universe where there is peice and prosparity (And bring back the possession of things to make it kind of capitalistic kind of socialist) than the world we currently live it. Heck, I would give up my capitalistic approch if that means there would be peace on earth. Peace is the most important thing, and until than, we are all a bunch of barbarian scumbags. |

I can't vote in your poll as Star Trek is nether Liberal nor Conservative, and I am sure of it. Star Trek goes past the labels of Liberal and Conservative when handing out political messages or depicting the world they created. In fact I believe it takes what is good in both ideologies and makes a hybrid and as is often the case with a hybrid, the hybrid is superior then the two parts that made it. This is why Star Trek appeals to such a wide variety of people form all over the political spectrum. Take Sister Trek for example, the members here are from all over the political spectrum yet the reason most of us are here is because we all like star trek. If star trek was a Liberal utopia do you really think members like Admiralbill_gomec, 38957, and doctortobe (to name a few) would be fans? And if it where a conservative utopia I doubt we would see members like The Sisko, Adrian or ImpulseEngine (to name a few) hanging around a star trek related message board. That means the only conclusion is that Star Trek is ether both Liberal and Conservative, nether or something different. Like I said my take on it, is that it is a combination of both ideologies as well as many others that include capitalism socialism and communism (to name a few more). Star Trek takes what is good in all these ways of thinking and makes a society where every one (no matter the way they think) can be happy and prosperous. And to be frank isn’t that what star trek is all about in the end, the expectance and tolerance of all points of view (non-criminal ect ect, for all those who wish to argue semantics and not all points of view are equal yada yada), it would hardly be living up to its intended design if it where to take a biased stand right out the starting gate. The Conservatives and Liberals, the Capitalists and Socialists, The Faithful and Atheistic all find something in Star Trek, they all see a future they want to be part of in Star Trek, and they all enjoy the same stories and messages from Star Trek. This tells me you need a new choice in your poll. |

I think it's liberal, but the idea that liberal shows ect- a perfect scociety, entices conservitives as well. we all want to see a better place. Roddenbery was not conservitive by any strech of the imagination. |

Liberal alone would hardly equate to perfect by any stretch of the imagination. With out some conservative values I would not want to live in a liberal world. I value things like common courtesy, and family values to name a few. Why would you say that? from what I see in star trek I think Roddenbery was a very centrist man. And one must always remember that Roddenbery is not the end all and be all of Star Trek he may have started it, but man men and women have added their ideas to it, and I’m sure a number of them where concretive as well as liberal and moderate. |

Hi Dan - There is a choice on the poll for you. It is called "Not sure" Just to clarify my choice of words (Utopian Liberal) by utopian I wanted to somewhat emphasize that it is not totally realistic. I don't think we will ever create a Utopia. I think Star Trek reflects what Liberals think the world will be like if everyone embraced liberal socialism (not communism - socialism seeks to help equalize things through social programs - it does not force equality through equal pay no matter what effort you put in. Socialism still allows for capitalism - which is alive and well in Star Trek) |

And DS9 a conservative show? No. Watch Paste Tense--extremely liberal and agenda-oriented (PC). |
