Is anyone NOT going to vote

I know there are many places around society (Schools, TV, churches, Libraries) that are trying to promote people going to the polls and voting in elections, but right now, I don't don't know if I will go or not. The last few weeks with all these opening up old wounds with Vietnam, to the petty bickering of politicians who feel they are still in preschool, and just the overall lack of interest has really turned me off from this election this year. Im just sick and tired of all this crap that has gone on this year, probably the worst it's been for any election. We put these people in office, and yeah I know the money is the most important thing, but where the hell is the professionalism. Why the hell should I vote for a candidate who is acting like a moron?

Does anyone else feel this way. Maybe I'm just nieve and this has been going on since the birth of this nation, but it seems like this year is the worst ever.

I hear you gdog. This election more than any other I have personally witnessed has put me off politics more than I have ever been. You just have to remember to vote for the least moronic of the two, that's what I will do in November. All the rest is hot air. What's important is for there to be a positive change over the havoc we have seen over the last four years.

Okay, you've just said two different things... one one hand, you are talking about the "least moronic," and the second you are talking about a "positive change."

Which is it?

Both, a lesser moron for a positive change.

Maybe that should be the Kerry/Edwards slogan! :loling:

Huh?
People always talk about getting out to vote, or organisations should get trying to get people to vote, but if you don't the the issues behind the candidates, I think you are doing your country a favour by not voting!

^^^ I disagree. Someone will get elected no matter what. Everyone should vote so that the government really does reflect what the people want.

If there is one thing I can't stand it's someone who didn't bother to vote complaining about who was elected. The only people in my opinion who have any right to complain about it are those who at least bothered to vote - but lost. And they really should accept with grace that they lost fair and square.

Ahh...but you misunderstood me. One cannot choose a government to reflect what they want, if they don't know what the issues are.

Is there a difference between not voting and complaining, or not voting because you didn't like the issues or what the election was about? I do want to vote, because it is my right as a citizan, but if the issues and the people running either suck, or act the way some of these politicians are acting, why the hell should I vote for them. If they aren't professional about what they are doing, or at least know what they are doing, than I shouldn't waste my damn time. It's the attitudes and the great division of this country that is the reason I hate politics. Like I said, every day this election is becoming more of a turn off.

Politicians and the media will never change. Politicians will always say what they think everyone wants to hear and the media will always look for the worst in people. I suggest a vacation from the news for a while. I have to do that from time to time or I become a bit nihilistic. All you hear is bad news from the news. There is plenty of good both locally and around the world, you just don't hear about it in the mainsteam media. Look to organizations who are working for positive changes and you can see the lighter side of humanity. It's always a comfort to me to know there are thousands of people everywhere working to make the world a better place.

I know they won't change, but it seems like in the last few years they've gotten a whole lot worse.

I would say you could do with a third party, a centrist party that can take votes from both sides. We have one here, the Liberal Democrats, and they can challenge both Labour and Conservative alike. It is not going to form a Government but has enough support to have a voice. The advantage is that it keeps the big parties on their toes, it stops them becoming too complacent and introspective. Its not a cure all but it is a good thing to have. Also you find that because the members of the third party know they are not likely to form a Government any time soon they are prepared to take more principled stands on issues.
