Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
It is not just the terrorists but the people who come over here and support them in one way or another. These phony Mosques that are just fronts for groups like Hamas. All the money being funnelled to terrorists from so-called charities in the USA.

I don't think that us restricting immigration from a country like Sudan is going to make the country in worse off. The solution in Sudan lies mostly internal. If anything international is to be done, it had better be the UN. If the USA does anything, all we'll here from you guys is how unilateral we are.

Why is it that America always has to take the refugees? (Just a blunt question.)

No one has said that the US alone should bear the burden, so frankly I find that response quite upsetting. :realmad:

Go back and read the poem I posted from the Statue of Liberty. Your country took on the responsibility long ago. Your country (and mine) were founded on the principles of a safe haven and freedom. I bet if you went far enough back in your own personal history you will find that your ancestors were also fleeing something in another country. Don't other people deserve what you were given????

Actually, Min... my great-grandparents on one side and my grandparents on the other... all immigrated legally. They were not refugees fleeing anything (the potato famine of Ireland happened forty years before my grandfather came), but rather came here seeking a better life.

For the last time, TIMES HAVE CHANGED! Don't tell me I'm a hypocrite because I might deny something that my great grandparents got... because TIMES HAVE CHANGED. That's it. No hypocrisy. I wish we could accommodate all who want to come here, but quite frankly we can't. It would be a security NIGHTMARE.

It is time to crack down on ALL borders to keep illegals from coming here (I'll cut my own lawn, thank you... all two acres of it). It is time to severely curb LEGAL immigration, cutting down the visas to a minimum. I'm sorry, but we simply can not take every refugee that comes here. Try Mexico. Try France. Try one of the dozens of countries who receive our financial aid.

I did read the poem before you posted it. Where do you think I got the exact text (except for the third line, which was obviously mine)? Poetry isn't my strong suit.

This is NOT just after WWII, this is just after 9/11. I know it sounds like I'm beating a dead horse here, but that CHANGED EVERYTHING. Maybe something can change after we destroy al Queda and are no longer threatened by every pissant terrorist who ever waved an AK-47 in the air.

Admiral - I am not talking about illegal immigration. Personally I agree that illegal immigration should be shut down (I might add it was your current President that gave an amnesty to illegal immigrants a few years ago, to appease his Mexican buddies. )

There is a huge difference between illegal immigration and taking in refugees. Sorry, I don't buy your argument. It is against everything your country was founded on and I still believe that if you shut your doors then the terrorists have won by forcing you (Americans) to change your way of life.

And I already showed you that your country is not the only one affected by terrorism. I find that argument selfish and self serving.

Time to put something here
Sorry Bill I will not allow the terrorist to win, I will not allow them to change who we are, what we have been since the very first days of this countries birth, I will not allow them to tarnish the gift my family was given as well as many others by denying it for others.

I do understand that measures need to be taken to safe guard our people, a serious effort should be taken to extract illegal immigrants form this country, a militaristic stance should be taken at our boards, legal immigration should enter the 21 century and use the latest and greatest technologies by a well educated operator to try and weed out the unsavory, ect. But to seriously curtail immigration to this country will seriously curtail this country.

Now this is not blind idealism it is a conscience effort to do the morally correct thing, even in the face of danger. You are absolutely right things have changed since 9/11, in fact I don’t have to look far to see the physical manifestations of this change, but one thing that should not change is who we are, and what this country stands for.
