Speak softly, and carry a 57 megaton stick!
I think that moving a carrier group into the region (as well as moving an armor division or two closer to the Iraq-Iran border) would cause a change of tone.

Isn’t this thread a bit redundant? Many of us have already commented on the threat on Somerled’s thread.

It looked like a different article to me... same tone, different article.

But it's from Yahoo - a source that I distinctly remember you criticizing not too long ago.

Shamkhani told Al-Jazeera it was not possible "from a practical standpoint" to destroy Iran's nuclear programs because they are the product of national skills "which cannot be eliminated by military means."

And therein was the problem with Iraq.

ENOUGH! :realmad: I am tired of this from those on the left in here who'd rather insult than have a MEANINGFUL conversation.

I picked the article off Drudge, and found it different ENOUGH from Somerled's article to merit additional discussion.

Cut the cr*p unless you have something to actually comment.

Admiral - I know it's been a tough day today, but please calm down.

Everyone else - He has a point, don't lose that point in his method of making it.

AB,

I understand your frustration with my comment because this type of argument comes my way on a regular basis from some members of this board. With all due respect, sometimes that even includes you. This particular case that I remember about Yahoo wasn't directed at me (if I remember correctly, it was at 24) but it was you who criticized Yahoo as a source. If you're going to do that, then don't expect me to sit back and ignore it when you pick the same source to support your point. Either it's credible or it's not.

So if you're willing to quit it, then I'd be all too happy to do so myself. I agree that it makes for lousy discussion.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
I thought Yahoo just compiled news stories from other sources (i.e., Rueters, USA Today, CNN, NBC, etc.) and referenced them. Perhaps, I am wrong and they have their own news team??

No, they use other news agencies.

This has to be bluff or extreme stupidity.

Who in their right mind would put the US on alert for a possible pre emptive strike with so many troops just over the border?

Hey there, Desainte! Long time no see.

You raise a valid point. What sane person would do that... problem is, I think this is just bluster. No one in their right mind would do this, but you never can tell with these fundamentalist types. They may be saying this to draw us into attacking them first, although I doubt it.

Their military equipment is ancient, and poorly maintained. Their navy is mostly speedboats and gunboats (they have one or two Babr class destroyers). Their air force is cannibalized F-4s, F-5s, and one or two F-14s. They did come into possession of a few dozen MiG-29s back in 1991 (when the Iraqis flew them there) but they haven't received spares from Russia. They have some T-72 tanks and some light infantry mobility vehicles (similar to the US Bradley or the old Soviet BMP). They do have Silkworm anti-ship missiles, purchased from the Chinese, and some other older Soviet SAM systems.

They would be as much of a threat as the Iraqi army was, if not less. Once again, you'd have the problem of fanatics.

The Iranians must have graduated from the same diplomacy school as the North Koreans.
