I watched a news story today about the declining popularity of the leaders of nations that were in the 'coalition of the winning'. It basically blamed the Iraq conlict as the major reason for the declining popularity of Bush, Blair and Howard (Aus PM). It was shown by Channel 7 ( owned by Murdoch), and quite frankly it was a load of horsesh^t. Here in this country the Governement brought out the Federal Budget a couple of weeks ago, and in a genius of public relations - they decided NOT to give 75% of the population a tax cut. This was with a purse of 50 Billion ( a lot for us). In fact, if you earn under $52000 a year and dont have young kids, you get sweet FA. Health and Education spending will determine my vote in the upcoming election. The Iraq situation will be about no. 133 on my list of priorities. So as Britain and the US have impending elections, what will influence you the most on polling day? Note: this thread is mainly for members to reply about the issues for elections, it IS NOT the start of another thread to debate wheteher or not Invasion Iraq is uselful. We all see the media polls saying that the Iraq conflict is high on voters lists, but this is also crap, when approach in the street by ( and around) strangers, one always likes to look like they should care about there fellow man, But what we all really are interested in is how much money is in the wallet, that our kids go to a good school, that we dont rot waiting in hospital queues or get bashed over the head while walking home at night - This is how we really vote , come election day |

I will be voting for a candidate who believes in a strong defense, and for a candidate who is from my perspective a moral person.
CP, What does this mean? |

That's one of the things I loved about Presidents Nixon and Reagan. I don't know this for certain, but it seemed like we were feared more at that time, and I attribute this to our defensive capabilities at that time. Having a brother-in-law in Baghdad who is saying a lot of nice things about the current administration doesn't hurt, either.

One of two Men. Our security as a nation that we do all we can to keep from becomming hog-tied like Isreal by Terror attacks. If this nation votes in a duplicidous man like Kerry.......... Strong leadership is required, not a man like Kerry. |

^^^ That's what I was basically asking CP. I probably should have been more succinct. In any event, I don't think he's online any longer this evening. I could order him back, but I won't--this time.

Strange, I had some nasty types in suits and shades knock on my door and instruct me to log back on as Fes had a request, when I said I would, one of them spoke to his wrist to confirm The polite version is that sweet FA means nothing, zip zilch. The A stands for all, I'll let you work the rest out. |

Oh, hadn't thought of that... yes I understand. I number of RN (Royal Navy, not Registered Nurses) friends of mine used to use that term, but never the abbreviation! I almost forgot... what will I be voting for this fall? Safety and security, and the continuing of a booming economy! |

CP, That was your first warning. Scully and Mulder will be back.... Yes, the economy seems to be doing quite well in my neck of the woods. That too is a determining factor in my decision for whom to vote. What I don't like is the conflicting information we always seem to receive no matter which person is in office--either the economy really is doing well, or it's not. Both cannot be true. The media have a lot of power over those that succumb to its charms.... |
