Apparently we look like this now
Remember when there were only 4 channels, and if the President was talking, that was the only thing on? Well guess what...ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, UPN, and the WB didnt carry the speech tonight.

The point is that if this was a Bill Clinton speech, it would be on the networks.

Maybe ... I don't know.

That said, it should have been carried.

Maybe. How can we know? BTW, I remember a time when there were only three networks, and UHF (channels 38 and 56) were a luxury. :)

JS,

There will be a transcript of the speech available very soon, if there isn't one already available. It can probably also be seen (repeated) via the Web visually somehow.

I listened to it online, and contrary to the rants of the left, he was very focused and it wasn't some "black and white", "good versus evil" speech.

8247,

Is it alright if I reply to this thread? You know, me being "rarely lighthearted" and all.

---

I was a little surprised when I had to click on a cable network just to see the President's speech tonight. Usually there is at least one network (CBS, ABC, etc.) who will air his speech. Actually, over the years I have noticed that Fox locals would air the President's speeches (any President) when CBS, ABC, etc. wouldn't (they didn't tonight though).

24,

Why do you think it was passed up? What else was on tonight?

I honestly don't know why it was passed on Fes. As far as I could tell, nothing but the usual Monday night shows were on. However, I am not willing to automatically say it is the "sign of the times," or assign some nefarious agenda (political reasons) to the media for not doing so though (without more to back up that kind of argument).

Actually, I do have one theory...the Networks are just greedy and didn't want to preempt their shows (a lot of season finales on lately).

Your post just reminded me of something--May sweeps! I think you're on to something there. I could almost understand it if the NFL (i.e., Monday Night Football) were on; however, that would only explain one network.

At least it was on FNC.

Anyone can also read a transcript on the White House website:
