Last night a tornado basically destroyed the small north central Iowa town of Bradgate. I live about twenty miles east of the town, and the remnants of it pass north of us. News reports say that 75 to 90 percent of the town is gone. It’s population is about 100. Around here, there is a lot of small towns. The town I live near that the mail comes from has less then forty people. My family and I tried getting in to see the damage, but the sheriffs and police have all the entrances blocked off. The six o’clock news said that there have been about 500 volunteers in helping clean up. Ambulance and Fire crews from around the county and surrounding areas have come to help. No, there wern't any fatalities, although our shariff was hit in the leg by a 2X4. I think someone else might have gotten a broken leg. Mostly it was cuts and bruises. Everybody was lucky. It's not often that that devestating of a storm doesn't kill everybody. I think it was KCCI, Newschannel 8 out of Des Moines that had wall to wall coverage traking the storm that saved lives. It's biggist competitor, WHO 13 didn't have hardly anything. That and the fact that the our shariff and deputies along with the neighboring counties police were there. We've been getting hit hard the past couple of days. Last night, there were several Tornados in Centeral Iowa. I think that they were smaller and briefer, so they did minimal damage. Up here in northern Iowa we got another 3 inches of rain, on top of the four inches we got during the earlier storm. It sounds like it's going to storm again tonight also. |

Yes, KCCI was all over the story. They tracked the storm well after I went to bed at 8:00 central. Ames had some flooding, and Adel had some touch downs. It looked pretty dark around here for awhile today but the weather is supposed to hold out until tuesday. ANOVA |

CV6, Glad to hear that the casualities/fatalities were very low. Speaking of the rain situation, we've not seen this much where I'm from in years. I'm hoping June is much dryer.
