Last night I watched Counterpoint again, for the 3rd time. And eventhough it wasn't such a bad episode, for the 3rd time I got annoyed with the ending. Janeway is trying to smuggle Benari telepaths out Devoran space and this Devoran captain keeps inspecting Voyager for telepaths. So not only the Benari but also Voyager's telepaths Tuvok, Vorik and a betazoid crewmember need to hide in the transporter buffer during inspections. During the last inspection Janeway fools the Devarons, the transporter buffers only contain barrels of vegatables and the telepaths escape through a wormhole. Great! So why was Tuvok standing on the bridge during the last inspection? Shouldn't he and the other two telepaths have been on board the shuttles as well? Sometimes I feel the point of watching StarTrek is trying to reason some logic and continuity in the mess the writers create but even the most dedicated of fans sometimes fail at this huge task

It's been a while since I saw the episode, but I'm thinking perhaps Tuvok and the other crewmembers needed to be present and accounted for in the final inspection. Vulcans and Betazoids can, when necessary, shield their thoughts and close their minds, though it takes some considerable mental effort. |

Its been a while since I've seen that one too, but I'm sure there was some explanation given. Oh well, I'll just have to watch it again then

Nope can't be, earlier in the episode the Devore captain questions Janeway about 4 telepathic crewmembers he has found in Voyager's database. Janeway explains to him Suder died in battle with the Kazon and the other three, including Tuvok, died in a shuttle accident some weeks before entering Devoran space. It doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the episode but the writer and/or director (V'ger takes a quick look - Michael Taylor and Les Landau) missed an obvious mistake in this one and it ruiins the ending. Oh well, on to Latent Image tonight, one of the better episodes in season 5 (not the best VOY season IMO). |

I don't know if you remember a couple of books published some years ago that were titled as the "Nitpicker's Guide to Star Trek" and "Nitpicker's Guide to Next Generation." If you find more incidents like this, perhaps you could compile them into a Nitpicker's Guide to Voyager. Good catch. |

Thanks TribbleMom, eventhough I think you meant it as a joke I seriously considered doing this, I've plenty of time right now and it sounded like fun... untill I saw the Captain's Nitpickers site and found a few more just like them. It's all been done already  |

I should have realized there would be a website. Guess I'm showing my age again when I think of a printed book before I think of a website. I'd been wondering why there hadn't been a Nitpicker's book for DS9 or Voyager ... now I guess I see why. Oh well.

TribbleMom, And you're showing your wisdom as well. Printed books are more authoritative, since scholarly works go through much more of a rigorous peer-review process. Web sites are reviewed as well (published reviews exist for several of them); however, it will be some time before the latter catches up with the former in sheer numbers.

^^^ That's because Tuvok took a hiatus to be in a DS9 crossover episode at that time.

No, it's because Paramount executives sometimes visit this board. One of them must have read this post, came to his senses and decided to delete the scene
Actually it's not at the very very end. Tuvok is on his usual spot as Janeway steps into her readyroom to meet the Devoran captain for the last time and at the same time Devoran soldiers are seen in the background taking over the bridge. I still can't believe someone bothered to make a Nitpicker's Guide, that could/should have been my goal in life.. Sounds like you're just as young as I am

^^^ Maybe you can still write the definitive guide to all things Trek?
