I cannot justify human shields, and i wont becuase it is competely wrong and i hope the soldier that did do it (if they really did) are charged and set to prison. However i have a few things to say. First the BCC is notroious for its anti-Israel slant. This isn't to try and say what they repoted is B.S. it could be true. But they say Rabbis were also used as human sheild yet no accout of it is given. Also the article starts off saying it was the police, not the IDF. In both articles it mentionsh ow it is agianst the law in Israel, and in the army, and the army is doing an inverstigation and so on. So dont play it like it is a governemnt pronsored action! Every armies got its nut-cases as for what looks like a maximum of three incedent reported (probably more im sure, but some are most likely questionable like the BBC article states itself). I stress the 'few nut-cases' to the Hebron article you provided. Becuase i know in general that is complete B.S. I have a cousin i think i told otu about before you moved to Israel and was drafted into the army. I've known his all my life, he is just one year younger than me. He SERVES in Hebron and partols the entire city on a daily basis and he has never seen or done anything of the sort. What he has seen are Palestinian terrorist sneeaking up on his unit with knives or guns, and often inciting children near by to throw stones. You can't label the IDF evil for so few incidents, and you definietly cannot discount the Palestinians from doing much much much More of the same thing with being questionable! Since you like posting articles.... Very similar. Same content and video. My point is that the news media here, despite its tendency to favor the left editorially, does a very good job of reporting incidents in the Middle East (and many other parts of the world as well). The expectation that this incident will be investigated remains a foregone conclusion. Will it be neat and tidy? Doubtful, such things rarely are so. As I indicated in my earlier post, the soldiers/officers involved are likely to offer an explanation beyond this being a case of a "human shield". Does that mean it justifies their using a human shield? No, of course it doesn't. It does mean that their version of events is likely to be markedly different than the version offered by Palestinian and Jewish peace group witnesses and the Rabbi in particular. It raises the possiblity that there may be mitigating factors offered as a defense for the actions observed on the video; which I wonder about how it may have been edited to allow clips of it to be run on news broadcasts. Am I saying this is not a case of using this boy as a human shield? No, I am not saying that all. I am saying that in any such circumstance there is an old axiom that certainly does apply here: There are 3 sides to every story, side A, side B and finally the truth. If by any chance the soldiers receive nothing more than a mild reprimand and a blemish on their personnel records there will of course be cries of a rigged outcome. If they are severely reprimanded (jail time, dishonorable discharge, etc.) some will think justice has been done, but some will also conclude that due to the prejudicial nature of the reports and the video that the offenders were hung out to dry for political reasons. |
