But according to DC what is lower-class, middle-class, and upper-class? And what distinguishes between middle lower and upper in each of those classes (middle middle-class for example) |

There are actual figures that define each of these classes, but what the Kerry campaign doesn't want you to know is that his "repeal Bush's tax cut" would affect more than the "rich". FOr example, the small business person... if this person has to pay more in taxes, he/she might have to forego certain purchases, like new equipment, or maybe (say this person owns a cash business like a hair salon) might have to lay someone off. The problem with the "class-envy left" (tm) is that they think they can drain the producers dry and they won't do a thing about it. Personally, if my taxes went up, I'd find get a new accountant, find every loophole I could, and would probably strive a little less (i.e., not try as hard to make more money). I've been very fortunate thus far. Since I got out of the Navy five years ago I have made more money every year (the past two years have been very good) running. Why would I try so hard if I was going to have to pay more? I'd rather concentrate on maximizing retirement, getting the house paid off, and making do with less. |

I would think that the standards for upper, middle, and lower class would shift with the incomes of the American people. Probably a lot of statistics. |

Doctortobe, LOL--I was wondering how you came to that conclusion, unless I listed my salary once. I may have done so, but I don't remember having done so.
Swidden, We are building a six bedroom, four bathroom, 3,500 sq. ft. home on twenty acres for about $150,000. (The money is going to the home, as the land has already been purchased.) What do they put in the water in California, anyway?

probably the same imported stuff they use in long island NY. I don’t want to live in the city any more. But cant see paying 550,000 plus on a house that only a few years ago would have went for under 350,000. The funny thing is - not many are selling and still people list their house so high. I think the problem is people are trying anyway they can to get back some of the money they lost in the stock market. With interest rates so low, and with real estate agents whispering in their ears they think they can sell that high. Some do, many do not. I think (and hope) reality will set in soon. |

^^^ LOL! Okay, I thought you must have secret ways.... ![]()
Dandandat, I know that this will sound overly simplistic, but I've never forgotten something my father told me years ago: "A home is only worth the amount someone is willing to pay for it." So very true.... |

I have to laugh at something my realtor said: I was considering selling my condo (Decided to rent it out) and asked her what other units were going for. She told me, and I was surprised. She also said that some of my neighbors were annoyed that condos were valued this high because the City of Houston had raised property tax rates. She asked, "Could you get this much for it if you sold it?" The ones she spoke to said that they could. She then told them, "then quit complaining about your property being overvalued then!" |
