Mind find this stuff useful : Preventing browser hijacks. There's a lot of it going on. And it is time consuming fixing it if it happens to your computer. I know because I just spent 12 hours helping my neighbour put an end to it on his computer - the illisate program was not detected by Norton. |

Thanks for the info. Somerled. I hope you installed a couple of software programs (free download off the net) like SpyBot and Ad-aware on his/her computer. Both do excellent jobs at removing spyware, adware, some malware, etc. |

Sure did (took a while as his modem is rather old and very slow) - but I noted that they didn't detect or remove this particular beasty so I was compelled to some special things to his security settings as well. It seems Redsheriff.com/us and imnworldwide.com are the cuprits. I have notified Microsoft of the problem as well in the hope that Microsoft sues the arse of the bastards, I am also considering contacting the Australian Federal Police as this kind of stuff has been legislated against here. Search sidebar still comes up on install but the spyware seems now to be blocked (got the cuprit IDs by interrogating his security status (blocked activity report), seems it got onto his machine just after Easter from the dates of all the Cookies it generated which I seeked out & deleted as well - he and she didn't want all their cookies expunged which would have been quicker). |

We've been hit with a spate of worms over the past six months here at the University. One of them slowed us down for about a week, but they've all been eradicated now.

Fesarius : Same here, my university has been subjected to hack-attacks as well, not sure how the system managers faired, but the proxy servor is vulnerable. Some times it's data transfer speed is woeful (but that might also be students and staff all on line at one time consuming available bandwidth (which has limitations). Bagle has been a pest too. I think my computer has also been subjected to some hack-attacks but I have managed to defeat the hackers so far (I regularly also get messages about too many failed logins for some of my hotmail accounts (I have several that I cycle)) also.) You have to be vigilent. |
