That was a joke, Bill.
But in all truth, I don't see many soldiers in uniform (and I live and work next to some pretty big military bases, Camp Pendelton being one).
Even if I did, I would feel pretty corny walking up to a complete stanger and crying "Thank You!".

Why would anyone

just walk(ed) up to ANYONE in a military uniform and thank(ed) them

?

In the military the vast majority of servicemen/servicewomen NEVER get anywhere near the action (being support in the rear), clerks, logistics, mechanics etc just they are in uniform. "

Tell that to Private Lynch and her dead comrades. I thank soldiers whenever I see them, and considering I've worked in DC for the past 3 summers, that's a lot. What's more important, not getting embarrassed over thanking people for risking their lives to uphold the freedom I hold so dear, or doing what is morally responsible.

Then that's just one more thing that separates us. I have absolutely no problem walking up to a serviceman/servicewoman and saying "thanks". You should see quite a few Marines if you are next to Pendleton.

Corny? Come on.

Aside to Somerled: So what? Everyone does their part.

You know, I doubt that anyone actually puts "terrorist" let alone "freedom fighter" or whatever similar personal description of choice on the tax or census forms, so I suspect that we really don't know just how many there are at any given time...

It's nice to see the keen analytical mind at work once again.... ;)

And you wouldnt see 'suicide bomber' either, they wouldnt last long enough to clear the tax free threshold. ;) :P
