I don't think there is any special meaning to this number...they probably just randomly picked them...unless somebody else can prove me wrong

Most details in Trek have a fact trail somewhere. I will look further into the registry number and see if it was ever explained. |

No, 8247 is just a number, and not even a big one like 38957! Actually I have researched it and many fans have speculated on the registry numbers as to the volume of the fleet. I can't find any official explanation from Paramount. Typically a guy like George Lucas , for example, has put all sorts of personal twists into his Star Wars films for details. 8247 don't you have a booger picking thread to check up on? Bon apetite! |

It's a bit like a license plate number. You can't use the same one twice. So it is not really the volume of the fleet, but the amount of registry numbers used up to the point that Voyager is assigned hers. This does not necessarily give an accurate accounting of the number ships that Starfleet has registered (consider Enterprise's all the way through NCC-1701-E). |
