It all boils down to that whatever happens in the Enterprise timeline has to happen so that the "real" timeline can eventually exist... I enjoyed "Chosen Realm" and it's current events theme... Archer may have been beamed into a large area like a cargo bay if he wasn't held in the buffer like bonja said...

I was surprised with this episode. While it might have been a "current events" sort of episode, it was still fairly weel put together and everything seemed to flow a little better. Though I missed something... where was Hoshi?? Yes Travis got a line or two in, but I never saw Hoshi at all... maybe I was out of the room or something... I dunno. Some stuff was predictable like the lone fanatic who had to wonder about following this madman, and the fact that the planet was decimated and almost everyone was dead... and of course the heretics believed the Spheres were created in 10 days as opposed to 9... c'mon, that was obviously silly! As for the "transporter faux-pas" simple... everyone cries "alternate timeline" well yes, seeing they are still in the middle of a temporal cold war thats probably the best explanation. But what about memory loss after they leave the expanse? Or better yet we saw how easily thje Xindi database was wiped out... maybe a similar thing happens to the ships computer? The possibilities are endless... I am just glad to have Trek back on the air. After nearly two months I was starting to have the shakes! |

Quote from Wichita: "BTW, did T'Pol forget the Vulcan neck pinch?" Apparently so .... perhaps she really IS spending too much time around Humans and they're starting to rub off on her. Of course, if she had actually succeded in subduing the Triannon, there might have been less action and the element of surprise might have allowed her to take control of the ship, and that just didn't fit into the storyline right then. Quote from Dan: "I loved when D'jamot(sp?) erased the Expanse data, it made me feel like "WOW I cant believe he did that" which is probably why I like the episode. There have seldom been enterprise episodes that got a response form me like that." Actually my response was, "Don't tell me they never made a BACK-UP DISC of that Xindi database!" One would think that all that information would have been deemed REALLY IMPORTANT, and surely in the next century there's still some means of storing data in some other format other than just on the computer's hard drive (or whatever it is they'll be using then). A couple of other things I really wondered about: 1). The religious sects seem to be divided over the question of whether the spheres were created in nine days or in ten days. If all the other religious questions are agreed upon, is this such a fundamental difference that people are willing to kill each other over????? 2). The religious zealots showed no desire whatsoever to gain new converts. Seems their zeal tells them to just kill anyone who doesn't believe the way they do in order to get rid of the problem (and pray for their souls, of course), rather than trying to be missionaries and gain more forces and resources for their side. Of course I understand that when they found the Enterprise crew had "desecrated" one of their holy sites, they wanted to punish them. But no one ever even seemed to consider the option of "These people are new here, and they don't understand what they did, so we should forgive them for their ignorance and teach them about our ways so that they don't do it again." 3). What do you suppose happened to the Triannon people at the end -- did the Enterprise crew just leave them on the decimated planet? Couldn't really blame them for wanting to, seeing as how they did steal the Enterprise and kill crewmen, but it sure doesn't seem the humane thing to do. Do you suppose that maybe there were areas of the planet that were still habitable and capable of producing food? On a good note, at least somebody finally let Mayweather actually fly a shuttle. It's about time they let the navigator do some piloting. |

Something Wicked This Fae Comes

TribbleMom, That is an excellent point! Why would a ship that obviously has sophisticated technology, not have back ups, fail-safes or heck a Quick Restore software program  ? This is common practice this day in age. It is a little unbelievable that the 22nd Cent. wouldn't be far more advanced in the data storage/recovery department. Maybe there will be a new development/clarification regarding this issue next week.

I had forgotten about the missionary/convert dialogue. I also found that somewhat unbelievable. But then I'm Mormon ...

I was a little late in watching the episode because I was coming back from a trip last night, so I saw it this afternoon. Overall, I actually thought it was pretty good, but it still gets a B from me. I liked that Bakula and the guest actor who played De'jammot (Whatever his name was) carryed the show and made it interesting. Also, (I know people might think the scene was cheesy) I got a kick out of the little internet chat thing with archer and Phlox. However, I did have a problem the message part of the show. It seemed like it was a giant sledgehammer, and the message seemed to be that "All Religion is bad." Maybe I'm wrong, but a lot of Archers dialouge from his talk about science, to criticizing thier faith, to even the trianans being the 22ed century extreemests religious terrorists. As a Catholic, I was a bit uncomfortable watching this show. Also, I was laughing at my TV when T'pol did the headlock. Not only was it the strangest, funniest, and weirdest thing I have ever seen, but I was like, wheres the vulcan pinch. Come on writers, this has been the vulcans move for the last 40 freaking years. If you forgot about it, than you have some issues, and you shouldn't be writing Star Trek.

Remember the great TOS episode "Let that be their Last Battlefield", well this episode was trying to do that (like ripping off the ending exactally) only they also wanted to make it topical, so they added some really lame "sucide bomber" alien's of the week with some badly written relgion about sphere's or whatever and thn just for fun they had Phlox and Archer instand messaging each other to save the day. Basicaly another routinue "Enterprise is taken over by alien of the week, now watch crew fight back" episode with silly dreams of being "topical" |

Well, it looks like I will have to wait until the reruns to see this episode. First I got put off until last Sunday by basketball. Then I had to tape it on Sunday. I went to watch it last night and discovered either my VCR had mangled the tape or the tape was defective. But hey, Wednesday there's another new episode right? Um no, I get more basketball on my local UPN...

Ok, I did finally get to see the episode. Most of my thoughts have already been said by others so I won't repeat. I just wanted to add: Where did those 4 ships come from toward the end when the whole planet had been annihilated supposedly 8 months before? It seems unlikely anyone survived. But even if those 4 ships had been in space when the everything else was destroyed, would they be just hanging around orbiting 8 months later..? The episode was ok, but as usual not too exciting.
out of 5.
