Don't get too many squirls in roof spaces in Australia - though possems and rosellas sometimes take up residence in people's rooves. Borrow a neighbour's cat, if you don't have one of your own and put it up through the manhole (make sure the cat comes when called though otherwize you'll have send a rescue mission into the roof space later, otherwise you'll be swapping a small pest for big pest - it's amazing how loud a cat stamping about the roof space will be when you are in quiet house and trying to catch some beauti sleep). The cat will either scare the little critter out (and it'll probably never come back once it's seen a big nasty hungry looking cat up close and personal) or the cat will catch and kill it (and hopefully eat it). Another option is to borrow some kid's pet ferret and have it do the deed. |

The cat thing works - my dad did that once when we had possem in our roof - the possem shot through and never came back , getting the cat back required some coaxing - putting her bowl of Kity Kat at the egde of the manhole and grabbing her when she came for a feed - she was quiet happy to be in the roof space (nice and warm and was in no hurry to come when called). Dad then found the entry point and sorted it out permanently. |

I have a nice .22 rifle that is perfect for eliminating squirrels. Problem is, out here we don't get a whole lot. There were tons more when I lived inside Houston city limits! This is probably due to the fact that I don't have a lot of trees here, and the average one is only about 6 feet (1.82 meters to you furriners) tall. |

Update. The weather finally cleared up enough to have a squirl guy install a trap on the roof. That was a week ago and so far the squirls have been holed up remaining pretty dormant. The squirl guy came back today and sealed up some other holes in the side of the roof he thinks they were using. He seemed a little impressed with the tactics of these particular squirls. More details as they develop. |

Admiral, You know, my oldest son would love to see a squirrel when he's out shooting his targets. But, he always seems to see them as we're driving away from our land--and you ought to hear is 'Darn!' and 'I can't believe it!' when he sees them, and his gun is at home. LOL. We have plenty of trees on our land, and many of them are around 75-100 ft. tall. It's still a lot of fun shooting tin cans and other non-living targets.

The mother squirl was removed about a month ago. No babies were found. The mother was set free in a park about 18 miles away (I was told). When I lived in Louisiana lots of people talked about eating squirls. Has anyone out there ever eaten one? |
