I think that they just really want a boy to carry on the family thing. The daughter are treated more like the farm animals. Also, like min said about supporting the parents on the farm or in old age. It is self-defeating to the culture, if only men remain, who has the next generation of children? |

How about a Voyager Movie
|
I always believed this was done in China because of over population, girls grow into women and have more children thus increasing the problem of over population. I swear I am not making this up, but where did I hear that?

Overpopulation is the reason for the one child per couple limit. The couples who choose boys over girls are doing so for personal/cultural reasons. |

My wife is half-Chinese on her father's side. So, I have had occasion to interact a fair amount with Chinese immigrant culture. Males are highly preferred for carrying on the family name and heritage. My wife's grandmother's family home in China has been a matter of debate among her and her siblings. They have one remaining brother and he has no interest in retaining the family home, so it will probably go to one or both of the sons of a deceased brother. Grandma has made a lot of progress over the years, but I can still see there is some preference that she gives her sons and grandsons. Particularly the first born sons/grandsons, even if it just a matter of being more forgiving of their missteps or just a bit more pride in their accomplishments. Her cultural upbringing is not as strong an influence on her as it used to be, but there remain vestiges of it... |

The Doctor and Seven were very popular characters, I liked them. I am not sure that I want to see a bunch of episodes centering around Ensign Kim. I liked Tuvok. We'd already had our fill of Chakotay if you ask me. And Janeway always seemed to be part of the focus of whatever episode. |

I think what is so limiting about the ECH is that it would be limited to where holo emiters could be emplaced on a ship. I am not positive that all ships came designed this way, I know that in Voyager they spent quite a bit of time converting areas of the ship to holodecks and fitting them with holo emitters. Can we assume that in the next wave of ships they will automatically fit each area of the ship with them. Holo emitters is the correct term for holo deck projective thingys right? I suppose if it isn't you'll correct me

On Voyager the Doctor had a mobile emiter that was taken from the 29th century and made it to Voyager in a round about way. That is how he moved around the ship. Or are you asking something else? |

I think I was refering to the temporary emitters set up to allow for increased holodeck usage... you know the standard moveable pole looking things that allow for holo emissions in temporary places... or are those something else... |
