Actually it was in last sunday's Parade Magazine. Small article telling where the latest weapons for the Iraqis are coming from.

Some have been stockpiled from a long time ago, but some of their weapons have a manufacturer's date of 2002! Many of those came from France and Spain who really don't care who buys their arms, just so long as the arms are bought.

Very interesting information, don't you think?

Jjtrek,

Yes, interesting. Do you happen to know if it has been corroborated?

BTW, I thought the thread was going to be about the Beatles. ;)

Fesarius, I'll have to take another peak at my Sunday edition of Parade Magazine to let you know. I would imagine it would have to be corroborated to make it into Parade.

Jjtrek,

Okay, thanks. Gosh, I haven't read Parade for over twenty years, when it (I think) was part of The Boston Globe. :)

I knew about the "French Connection" but hearing that weapons came from Spain is a new one on me.

The French actually supplied weaponry up until the start of the war.

Hey jjtrek, :wave2:

Just read the article you were referring to and I am afraid I didn't see any mention of Spain. However, they did mention Russia and France as sources of Arms. :)

The Sorce of Iraqi Arms

"Our troops face deadly resistance in Iraq--but where are the guerillas getting their weapons? Prewar Iraq had huge stockpiles, which were looted or handed out. Even more serious, many key weapons, such as rockets, apparently arrived during the 12-year UN embargo, which prohibited the sale of such arms. (A few reportedly have manufacture dates of 2002). The primary suppliers? Russia and France. "Both are big arms merchants and fairly amoral in their selling practices, " says Max Boot of the Council on Foreign Relations. If we have proof that they sold arms during the embargo, he adds, "it should prejudice the ability of Russian and French companies to do deals in a democratic Iraq" or to seek repayment of the billions they loaned to Saddam.

24thcenstfan,

Max Boot--a 'shoe in' for the Council the next time he runs--assuming one runs for that, or for any position having to do with the Trilateral Commission? ;)

Admiral,

I'm only joshing here, so no need to expend the energy. :)

And we wonder why we are not going to get anywhere with the UN?

I stand VERY much corrected by 24thcent! I mistakenly put Spain in where Russia should have been. Very sorry about that!

Seems thanks to those two countries, the US, Britain and other coalition forces are taking two steps back for every one step forward in this war.
