What bothered me more than whether it's possible for Sim to have Trip's memories, was why didn't he have ALL his memories right from the beginning? If they are Trip's memories passed along, why would they "develop" over the brief aging period...? |

24, You're probably going to hate me for saying this, but I believe T'Pol's kissing Sim was actually done for purely *logical* reasons. (By this, I mean that the reason was similar to Spock jettisoning the shuttlepod's fuel in The Galileo Seven. :)) But, that's a topic for another day. This episode is extremely thought-provoking. About a third of the way through, I was saying to myself, "I know I'm not going to like the ending of this one." Thankfully, the real Trip was saved. I don't know if I could have stomached Sim being saved, and Trip's [whatever] being implanted, transplanted, etc. into him. It would have left a sour taste in my mouth, for sure. But I am still left wonderfing if Trip had all of Sim's memories--that point is speculative, but IMO worth some thought. Archer was given a no-win decision, IMO. This decision was much more difficult than the one that Janeway had to make in Tuvix--since the latter was an unknown entity to the viewer, whereas Sim was only a partially unknown entity. Therefore, the familiarity (of Sim) tugged at the heartstrings a bit more. Besides, I think Trip is better looking than Tuvix. I don't know if Phlox made an honest mistake (which is easy to overlook), or whether he knew something a priori and decided to keep it back from Archer. If it turns out to be the latter (in a succeeding episode somehow), then I say he goes three years without sleep, thank you very much. I thought that the character that played Trip around the age of ten was very well done. That boy sounded like Trip and acted like Trip. If the viewer had to see this version 'die,' it would have been very, very difficult to cope with, IMO. When Sim was in engineering (near the conclusion of the episode), I wasn't sure if his look back toward T'Pol was 1) because he liked her and wanted to be with her; or 2) because he was trying to do something covert without her knowing it. We learn that it was no. 2, but at the time, it was nice *not* to know which possibility was occurring. I also appreciated Sim's explanation of his ethics to Archer near the conclusion. I give Similitude four out of five stars.
