When you post opinion pieces from the Herald, I am occasionally tempted to check out what the rival NZ paper says on the same subject. When I tried that today, I got sidetracked by the story on unemployed workers being referred to jobs in the sex industry. That really didn't happen, did it?

We only have one national daily ! Everything is an opinion I guess, but some opinions should count more than others. As for the sex industry refferal, yes it did happen - and why not ? Prostitution is legal here now, it is not up to the job refferal people to make a moral judgement on behalf of others what is a suitable occupation and what isn't. We live in the land of the free you know !

You do have associations/collectives of other papers though. From what I have seen they are not as rabidly anti-American as the Herald tends to be. As to the other issue... Then I would have to say I'm glad I'm not unemployed in New Zealand. I would hate to lose my benefits just because I didn't want to become a hooker. |

Time to put something here

Must add my   - but of cores because this isn’t America bashing - NZ just sees it as relevant. My wife lost her job a while back, I’m glad we don’t live in NZ as her unemployment check was greatly needed and I would hate to think that I would have to put her on the street or else lose the benefit. |

And I am not New Zealand-bashing .... No doubt this is a cause for concern for many people there as well. |

Is anyone aware that there are more jobs in the sex industry than just prostitution? At least here in the US it's a HUGE corporate situation. Whether each state has legalized some form(s) of it or not, it's huge. Julia |

The same arguement applies. Many may find jobs in the sex industry morally unacceptable even if the government doesn't make any judgement. |

that's right.....and hopefully people respect that and allow others the right to choose for themselves. That is democracy isn't it ? |

have you considered the possibility that the reason the NZ Herald generally posts articles skeptical of the US Iraq policy (though usually based upon facts and well presented IMHBiasedO)..........is that, that is what the majority of NZ'ers think too ? (to greater and smaller degrees anyway - I for one am quite a way along the "greater" axis, but I think you realised that already )
