SHEEP SABOTAGED. This is serious head-line news here. (al Queda didn't do it , nor those nasty Indonesians or some sleeper cell of terrorists , or the CIA or those sneeky French Secret Service Agents (who sunk the Rainbow Warrior). Read about it if you are intreged ....

I would have to side with the guy who questioned whether it really happened. That may not matter, however, because they may never be able to prove it one way or the other. If Australian law is anything like US law, it probably won't stop the deal though. The owners of the sheep would simply have to find a new flock of sheep to ship to the Middle East. |

Time to put something here
|
Whether or not the incident occurred is irrelevant, the people who claim to have committed the crime should be brought up on charges regardless. Whether or not they did what they said they did, the out come is the same, the sheep where not shipped to the middle east, and that is a loose to the people involved. While animal comfort should always be one of the priorities to companies like this (if you can do it then why not?) we should remember that these are only animals, who wouldn’t even be around if it weren’t for the fact that we slaughter and eat them. |

Clearly, we are talking about something that is harmless to the sheep (something of great concern to animal rights activists...). To start with those claiming responsibility should be held liable for damages to the farmer's. I would expect that criminal charges will be minor. If, as is suggested in the article, the flock has to be destroyed then the perpetrators should have to observe and understand that their misguided attempt to prevent slaughter as food has lead to pointless destruction... (only problem with that solution is they will deny it being their fault). |

First I'd have to ask: can sheep differentiate between grain feed and feed that contains animal products? I wonder if any studies were done on this. Sheep are herbivores like cows are. But cows ARE fed some animal products in their feed. That's how mad cow disease can potentially spread. hmmmm. Interesting dilemna. Julia |

"Animal liberationists' claims of feeding pork to Middle East-bound sheep was a hoax, the owner of a Victorian feedlot said." I think this hoax was an attempt, like we get from our own PETA loonies, to disrupt people from eating animals. Y'know, if animals weren't meant to be eaten, they wouldn't taste like MEAT

All good theories. The whole idea is to stop the live animal trade - the animal liberationists believe the trade is inhumane and that the (dumb) animals suffer greatly during the transportation (weeks cooped up on an ship) and in "traditional" slaughter when they get to the middle east or SE asia. I think the aim of the saboteurs is to end this trade by hook or by crook. Update: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/National/story_53266.asp : shredded ham found in feed overnight. My position on this - I don't have a position. |

Anybody going hunting next weekend? Mail the picture of your field dressed buck or doe to this organization and tell them that their actions shocked you enough to go out and kill a deer. |

Hmmm, not a bad idea, but I don't have time to go hunting this year. If I'd thought about it, I would have taken pictures from last year's hunt, especially after we cleaned and dressed the bucks we got (not a pleasant sight, to you non-hunters) and the perfect thing to enrage an animal rights "activist"

These are the same clowns who want to ban fishing because fish are caught using hooks and fish feel pain. I wonder what that they would think of my practice when using live bait of impaling the small live fish with large fish hooks through the flesh either under or above their backbone - don't want to damage their spine - you want them to be able to swim about and survive for maybe 30min or an hour or more on the hook before the shock being handled , impaled and caste a long way by rod kills them.(If a big fish, squid, octapus or crab doesn't find them first.) Tourists are often shocked and horrified if they see me doing this - as if I care. |
