Sorry .... I missed the punch line - please run the pink floyd one by us again (or is it an american thing ?)

Did you all like the one - eyed one - horned flying - purple - people -eater ?

Propulsion and thrust generation for flying pigs (or sheep) .... pressurised methane (biogass) , add an ignition source near the appropriate orice and walla ;) .

Children - please don't try that (especially through flammable undergarments or with bare skin - it'll hirt !!!!).

Uh-oh Fesarius, looks like you're going to have to explain it afterall.

Somerled, it helps if you've ever seen the band in concert.

The truth is that this country is split down the middle on this particular issue. I personally think many are unhappy with President Bush's actions and his administration but dont feel a sense of anti-Americanism that is more prevalent in France for example.

Somerled,

Well, I would explain the Pink Floyd reference, but I, more than anyone else on this Board, like to keep to the topic at hand when posting in a thread. :wow: ;)

That sounds a lot more like your truth, DS. I'm not saying this to be unkind, so read on. I've been speaking and e-mailing with a lot of Brits lately (because they did the initial design work on a project I'm involved in), and, to a person they've been very supportive. Admittedly, the youngest on that project is Colin (he's 26), but he's the loudest supporter of all. He also has a brother in the army. This company has offices in greater London and Reading.

I don't think these folks are trying to butter me up, or kiss butt with the company I'm pimping myself to, because they've already done the work.

I see you're vision as one of your immediate surroundings. You, and many of your fellow college students, are against the war, and you've extrapolated this to the general populace. We're all guilty of that at one time or another.

This reminds me of a tale told by William F. Buckley on an event from 1968. Richard Nixon had just been elected president. Buckley was at some literary guild cocktail party when the news came in. A columnist for the New York Times said, "That's impossible! No one I know voted for him!"

Catch my drift? If the far left Guardian says in their survey that 62% see America as a force for good, you have to think the number is quite a bit higher.

I think you may be doing the same thing AB :).

What I am saying is that there is a big difference between asking Britons about 'America' and asking about 'President Bush'.

Say the poll question was 'do you have a favourable impression of President Bush' I strongly suspect the majority would say no.

Wouldn't that depend on the sampling? I would expect so. Read the Guardian survey on that (see link at top of thread).

Somerled,

Re: Pink Floyd--

See their 1977 album, Animals--specifically, the cuts entitled Pigs on the Wing (pts. 1 and 2) and Pigs (three different ones). :)
