is it me or does it seem rather ironinc that in this election year, a discussion about how much money is being spent (wasted) on electing candidates to the highest office of the most free country in the world, that this topic should be locked shut.

NZ, if you want to talk about campaign finance then start another thread. The topic itself isn't forbidden...I think the powers that be just want everyone to keep the comments as clean and non-life threatening as possible. :alien:

It seemed to degenerate into name calling and rude remarks, Wichita complained about the tone of it all, so I locked it.

Perhaps a discussion that doesn't need words that are entirely capitallized (shouting) could be held. Also, a discussion that doesn't state opinions as though they are fact.

Perhaps persuasiveness rather than radicall accusations and assertions.

I am not sure what "go pound sand" means, but if it is what I think it is, it should not be considered a persuasive arguement.

If debators did not state opinons as fact Congresses and Parliments the world over would be very quiet places... :D ;)

Seriously, though opinions make their way into debates/discussions all the time and the person(s) offering those opinons frequently fully believes them. They key in a debate is to rebut the opinon with actual facts.

Also, I think it is fair to call some of topics here debates rather than discussions. Both are dialogue and some topics are going to lend themselves more to debate due to the beliefs of the people involved.

the voice of moderateness as usual........must be that SFO fresh air and laid back lifestyle.

I think any time someone uses personal abuse as a tool in a discussion or debate that needs clamping down on first of all !

OK, but if it is just people trying to anger each other, it is not a discussion nor a debate.

I agree entirely 38957, but just becuase my opinions anger bill, why are they considered trolling ????

God if I had a dollar for all the BS I've read on this board and TF, and some of it made me very angry, I'd be a millionaire, but I don't go making excuses for myself just becuase I disagree with it all or abusing people who said it, with no rational arguement attached.

I guess NZ hasn't been reading posts aside from mine. There were others unhappy with his posts. I just made no bones about it. I call things as I see them.
