Oh, yeah, is that what we were originally talking about? One of the things that report indicated was that other forms of entertainment were becoming more popular and thus may be accounting for the drop off in viewership. Specifically, DVDs were mentioned. I know if I'm given the choice between watching something on TV with the interruption of commercials every 10-15 minutes, or watching it uninterrupted on DVD, I'll choose DVD most every time. Maybe I'm just getting crotchety in my advancing age (gender and age do NOT put me into the demographics in question in this report), but I get really annoyed with those interruptions anymore. Watching Enterprise, you get 45 minutes of the show and 15 minutes of commercials. One-quarter of the time you're investing is just spent on ads for things you probably don't want/don't need/can't afford anyway. Makes me wonder if the young men in that demographics sector also feel the same way about commercials, and thus opt for other entertainment forms. |

I just saw this over at TrekToday. **************** Reporter Garth Franklin cites an alleged leaked Paramount memo stating that the current Enterprise season will be reduced to 24 shows - the first time in nearly 20 years that a Star Trek series has filmed fewer than 26 episodes per season except during a writers' strike. **************** I knew about the TNG shortened season, but does anyone know if the first season of DS9 also occurred during a writer's strike? |

Admiral, Although only a rumor, you may turn out to be right. **************** "Lot talk behind the memo is that next year will be the last season of Enterprise," Franklin added. "A fourth and final season of 24 shows, which with the first two seasons total episode count...would fulfill the magic syndication requirement of 100 total episodes." |

Well, it turns out that their wording (TrekToday) has been corrected (regarding the no. of episodes excluding writer's strikes). ****************
**************** Thankfully, ENT is in no immediate danger according to UPN.

Immediate? No, but it seems that they are likely to keep an eye on it and if it gets lower and lower ratings then that danger may suddenly bcome quite immediate. |
