Who cares... so far the War on Terror has cost less than 1/2 of one percent of GDP thus far. I think that NZ fails to understand the scale of the cost. After all, the 87 billion dollars President Bush asked for (to stabilize Iraq) is greater than New Zealand's GDP in 2002. It is a little under 0.75% (three quarters of ONE percent) of the United States GDP. The War on Terror shall be won when these radical groups are crushed beyond the ability to reorganize. By the way, if there is another 9/11 (which I doubt), we will prosecute the terrorist scum the same way we did to the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam's Ba'athists in Iraq. If that involves toppling Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Iran, or Syria, so be it. Iran is on the brink of revolution right now, but not the way NZ wants (the revolutionary feeling is toward democracy and away from the current theocracy) I guess NZ hasn't noticed that al Queda hasn't done a whole lot in 2 years. Could it be from a lack of funding AND leadership?? Osama is worm food, we're closing in on Saddam (US troops closed an area of Baghdad today in a sweep searching for Saddam). Iraq is improving, THANKS TO US. P.S. Nuclear weapons are ALWAYS an option. Get over it. It would achieve VICTORY. |

Quite right Admiral. For the better part of a decade when Iranians have gone to the polls to elect their parliament members they have solidly supported the moderates and reformists. If it were not for the Council of Clerics (the group that succeeded Ayatollah Khomeini) Iran would likely have undergone a more radical reformation already. Has anyone here ever read the Iranian Constitution? It is a remarkable document. It mandates, among other things, recognition of Christianity and Judaism as authentic religious faiths and protects the people's right to engage in public protest. With over a hundred articles and subarticles it is not a short read, but worth it. |
