Gabe,

A local affiliate in the States is a regional station with a service contract to broadcast a given networks programs. The stations usually have their own newsdepartments for broadcasting stories of local area interest. When Admiralbill says he gets local news from the local NBC affiliate this is probably what he means.

Exactly right... I get local news from KPRC (Channel 2, NBC affiliate), a local Houston station. Why that station, instead of Channel 11 (local CBS affiliate), Channel 13 (local ABC affiliate), Channel 20 (UPN affiliate), Channel 26 (local Fox affiliate), Channel 39 (local WB affiliate), or Channel 24 (local Houston all-news station)? Channel 2 has the nicest looking women, not to mention the most accurate weather forecasts! Do I watch Brokaw? Nope. This is simply where I get local Houston news.

Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
It is well known fact that the more attractive the weather girl is, the more accurate her forcasts are :D . The local news is too depressing for me to watch very much of it (besides the weather). Man, the people who run this city are all dumb aging hippies, although they did just block the contruction of a Wal Mart supercenter which I was glad about. But, they did it for the wrong reason (environmental).
