What special qualities go into making a character so uniquely annoying as Neelix?

I didn't and still don't find Neelix annoying, though I certainly never cared for him.

I find bland characters such as T'Pol and Seven of Nine far more irritating.

Neeliex had his moments but the character was rather very in your face and very pusg=hy. If you ask me Kes is the most annoying, is it me or does half of the Delta Quadrant thrive on pushyness?

I am kind of surprised about the trekfan backlash towards Neelix. He wasn't that annoying even though sometimes his character was really not necessary. I actually thought 7 of 9, with all the episodes dealing about her and the borg were more irritating. I liked Neelix in the early years when he was there as a guide of the delta quadrent. When he became mainly just a cook, he ended up not being useful and more in the way.

I didn't find him annoying. I also liked Kes--I thought her voice was soothing, and very appropriate in a sickbay. I wish she hadn't left the series.... :(

Neelix and Kes were my two favorite characters on Voyager. I didn't find either one as annoying as Paris, Seven or any of the others.

I liked Neelix.

I was glad to see Kes go away (too goody-goody)

Janeway's cigarette voice grated on me a little bit, but I got used to it. I liked Janeway as a captain.

The whole indian religion thing with Chakotey bothered the Akuchi-moree out of me.

I just didn't like Captain Proton and Sweet Haven (or whatever).

I liked the holographic Doctor. He liked to sing and he was quite blunt.

I like Seven-of-Nine Tertiary Adjunct of Uni-matrix 001. Yes, she is hot, but I also like her character. She was very matter of fact and blunt and was ill-at-ease in a social setting.

I liked Janeway.

I was so-so on Paris, Kim and Torres.

I was glad that the Kazon did not last beyond season 1 or 2.

No opinion on Tuvok,38957?

I have to say the only regular character in the Trek universe that I really had no affinity for was TNG's Dr. Pulaski. She seemed too much an attempt to redo McCoy and it did not go well. I might have grown to like her if she had remained with the series, but I was always grateful that Dr. Crusher was brought back.

They are all great, even with their ups & downs, thats what makes a charactor. If they all are fully likeable, then that would be annoying.

I just didn't like Captain Proton and Sweet Haven (or whatever).

I'm gonna take that personally......

Proton was only in a couple of episodes anyway, i think Fair haven was made when
the makeup department needed the week off.

I sort of liked Kes , she wasnt exactly annoying, but the character was a bit too goody two shoes at times, especially for the youngest member of the crew.

Neelix, I didnt find annoying at all , I totally dont understand the criticism, some scenes when he rubbed Tuvok the wrong way were funny.

No one on Voyager bothered me anywhere near as much as Acting Ensign Wesley Crusher! :realmad:

On that we are in agreement, except mayby I would call him Poorly Acting Ensign Crusher.

I forgot Tuvok. I didn't mind Tuvok, but he didn't really spark a lot of interest for me. He was the necessary Vulcan.

Neelix had an episode in which he died and was brought back to life by 7/9. There was another in which Tuvok lost his marbles and became child like and Neelix befriended him. For some reason, these two episodes really made me like the Neelix character. I didn't care much for Flotter though.

I'm surprised about all this support for Neelix. I had no idea he had such a fan base (or at least a base of people who are indifferent to him). :o

This from one whose avatar is perhaps the most irritating Star Wars character except jar-jar. :P

Well, I'd take Yoda over Jar-Jar any day with light sabers. ;)

I suppose the lesson here is that there's no accounting for taste. By the way, did you know that Yoda and Mr. Myaggi from the Karate Kid are actually the same character?
