I've always been conservative... since I stuffed envelopes for Nixon at age 8! Hell, I applied to (and attended) a military academy during a time when support for anything military was suffering through post-Vietnam lows. Yup, I'm conservative... and proud of it. |

It seems like most Americans on this board are conservative. Does that mean that conservatives are attracted to Trek for some reason? Or does it mean that the people who can afford a computer tend to be conservative and this is a slice of that segment which also likes Star Trek? |

Member of Conservative Party for a few years now. Take an active role in local politics, even though I never get voted in because our area is predominantly socialist. An example of their stpuidity is when they blame me for the Miners' strike of 1984, and the subsequent closure of the coal mines. I turned eleven in September 1984.

Gvok, Well, I wasn't going to explain my vote, because I really dislike being pigeonholed. However, I am a registered Republican, and have voted as such since 1988. Before that year, I never voted, although I could have voted beginning in 1976. My decision at that time (as well as during the 1980 and 1984 elections) not to vote was due to my being against what I believed the Electoral College stood for--I didn't like how a popular vote *could* be over-ridden by it in certain circumstances. Then, I studied the Electoral College more, and found out that it had (unbeknownst to me before having studied) a very long history. I credit G. Gordon Liddy (as well as one other talk show host of some repute) as the primary reason/person that I elected finally to get off my duff and go vote. Listening to him for a few years really cut me to the heart regarding the issue of voting.

I voted moderate because I lean to the right on issues like foriegn policy but to the center left when it comes to many (but not all) social issues. |

I am a moderate lefty (a term so affectionately used by many), who once in a blue moon leans righty, and I am extremely, darn tootin, extra mega proud of it!!!!!!
It would be hard to say definitively what political ideology the majority of Star Trek fans subscribe to, especially since there have been no scientific polls undertaken. However, it has been my impression (from sistertrek and startrek.com) that there is an overwhelming number of conservative Star Trek fans who use the message boards. Why? It is hard to say. You do make a valid point in regards to access to computers though. The digital divide can just as easily extend out into adult populations. Middle/upper middle class/upper class (many are conservative), tend to have greater access to computers. |

I aspire to be moderate. On social matters, I fall to the left of center. On financial matters, I fall to the right of center. |

I am a moderate. I pick which side I am on for an issue by the individual issue, not by political ideology. |
