Well just been over at trekbbs, and to my surprise they are changing Star Trek: Enterprise's theme. "Faith of the Heart" is to be scrapt. New Link

After two years of fan complaints about the Enterprise theme song, "Faith of the Heart", are the producers finally considering making a change?

TrekWeb reports that the electronic band Woven has recorded a new, original theme song for the series, delivered to the production studios last week. A spokesperson for the band said that Woven became aware of the opportunity through InterScope Records.

Other sites have reported numerous rumours that Enterprise will overhaul its opening credits, changing everything from the images to the theme of historic travel. SyFy Portal suggests that UPN may be adding the Star Trek name to the Enterprise logo, based on advertisements for the series' fall premiere.

"Faith of the Heart", written by Diane Warren and performed by Russell Watson, may also remain in a "new, 'more energetic' arrangement, according to TrekWeb sources. This would not be an unprecedented move; Deep Space Nine's theme music was given a new arrangement at the start of that series' fourth season.

Paramount and UPN have not confirmed any plans to change the theme music for Enterprise, nor has any official announcement been made about plans to put the Star Trek brand on Enterprise's logo.

The original item about Woven's recording may be found at TrekWeb

I read that too and guess what, what we saw in season 1 and 2 is as far as this series is to go with being a prequal. Why, because I loved that theme song and thought it was a great way to introduce a new star trek series that actually hits more close to home. Now, with the new technology aboard the Enterprise, new mission, and basically a new premise, the prequal I knew is too scrapt.

What I don't get is why? Ok, the series lacked direction in the first few seasons, but if any of the people who work on ENT have half a brain and actually new what the franchise was, wouldn't they think "Gee, we are doing a prequal that is supposed to respect and bring back the good days of "Star Trek." Hey, why not lead this show to the direction of the birth of the federation. Thats what this series is about, thats what it was tended, and thats what will make new people getting into the series for the first time as well as old trek fans tune into our product. We make money, we get good ratings, we stay on the air with fan appritiation on our backs." I don't know much about producing or the media industry, but it looks like nither do the people who created this series in the first place. You say suliban will be the main enemy, fine make them the main enemy. You say it will be a prequal, fine MAKE IT A PREQUAL.

I am not looking foward to this new direction, and if it fails the series should just go under because its not worth the squat like the other series tried to be. Also, in october I will be getting Season 5 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. That series ended 4 years ago, but I am looking foward more to that than enterprise because that will be new trek that is actually good.

I'm sorry for being a basher, but I remember what they said this series was supposed to be in trying to promote it. I hate being lied to.

Good. Sorry, but IMHO the song was cheesy and over the top.

"Faith of the Heart" is a very nice song in and of itself. However, I never did care for it as a theme song for a Star Trek series. I was always partial to the strictly-instrumental scores. A pop ballad just didn't sit right with me, but I know some folks love it. I must admit, the lyrics are appropriate to a deep-space program taking wing.

Conversely, I loved the images we saw in the beginning. I wouldn't mind if we kept those inthe opening sequence. Slight tweaks, perhaps would be good -- such as recognizing Yuri Gegarin (sp?) as the first Human in space.

I suppose only time will tell -- but only one week to wait!

I have mixed feelings. I didn't like Faith of the Heart as an intro to Enterprise originally, but after two years, it would hardly seem like the same show without it. Of course, for many, they hope it doesn't seem like the same show. But, for the most part, I have liked Enterprise. The stories could use some improvement in depth and in excitement, but I haven't found the show on the whole to be all that bad.

What bothers me is that, so far, I have heard about changes in uniforms, hairstyles, bridge appearance, and the story arc. Now we have another possible change in the theme song. All of this is cosmetic. If they really want to improve the show and make fans happier, they need to work on the quality of the stories. I've heard very little about that. But I sure hope that is mostly what they have been working on...

I completely agree. This is what I was hoping for when I first started watching Enterprise. It's what so many fans have been saying all along and, for some reason, the writers/producers haven't paid any attention.

I admit, I didn’t like the Enterprise theme song when I first heard it. It had less to do with the quality of the song and more to do with the song being a complete departure from the “traditional” Star Trek music.

I like Faith of the Heart a lot more now, but would still like to see Enterprise having the more traditional sound. Regardless of whether or not they change the theme song...it is only cosmetic. There are other things that I would prefer B&B work on (they may already be doing so), such as making sure this season's storylines blow us out of the water. Everything else is fluff.

I like it too, but I think they were wanting it to be something longs the line like "Happy Days" or "Differnt Strokes". It give the show a little something but it got boring after oh 20 episodes.

Am I the only one here who has ever heard Rod Stewart's rendition of the Enterprise theme song?

Yeah, I'd like a more traditional theme for Enterprise but doubt that will happen.

I heard it right after the first season. I liked it so much, I even made a post about how it connects with our society because it was the week of my Graduation from High School. I guess thats why I like it. The lyrics work so well with this premise of a prequal, that it even its close to home in our lives.

So they're scrapping the lyrical version of "Where My Heart Will Take Me" then?

GOOD! That would mean that I didn't have to mute the first minute. Now if I didn't have to mute other sections of the show (when the dialog gets too trite)!

This can only be a step in the right direction.

I almost forgot to mention WHY I don't like the song.

I'm not a big Diane Warren fan. She writes smarmy, formulaic songs. The choice of Russell Watson, who is supposed to be an opera singer (but sounds like he gargles broken glass and Drano), to sing this piece of musical coprolite was a poor one. Watson makes Bob Dylan sound like Placido Domingo and Jeff Lynne sound like Luciano Pavarotti!

So, scrap the song? Good! Put in something classical (like TOS-like).
