Had you noticed the recent trend in movies, especially Science Fiction? :headscratch: There are tons of movies being released but most of them are reboots of hit movies and TV series. This ranges everything from the Avengers to Zorro. :wow:

I think Hollywood is definitely into recycling, don't you?

Whatever happen to originality? :scared:

Originality has been remade...

It's easier to rework something you know worked once and could work again.

Apparently we look like this now
The Red Dawn reboot was ok....until the ending, where it seemed to hint a sequel.

...Actually, the invasion scenario could not happen today. Nevermind.

Hollywood has been in this mode for years. They ran out of creative talent more than a decade ago and just focused on pushing computer animation and hot chicks at us.

I don't mind the reboots, as long as they're done well. I was really disappointed in Oz the Great and Powerful. Not only does it conflict with what was originally known in The Wizard of Oz, it also conflicts what was told in the stage play Wicked. It's like they threw a couple of old bones to the true Wizard of Oz fans, then changed what they though would be more fascinating and entertaining to a younger crowd. And the gowns that were worn by Glinda were very poorly done, as was the character playing Glinda's sister - - what did Mila Kunis wearing tight black leather pants have to do with anything, besides guy eye candy?? Hmmmm.....

"Oz The Great And Powerful" supposedly drew it's source material/inspiration from the original L. Frank Baum novels, not the MGM movie.

The original movie had it's own share of conflicts with the book, most notably that Dorothy is older in the movie (about 14-15) than the first book, where she is about 9, and the Silver Slippers of the book became Ruby Slippers in the movie as a Technicolor stunt.

So far, the closest to the actual Oz reality was the movie "Return To Oz" with Fairuza Balk. Even the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion were designed to look like the original W.W. Denslow illustrations of the characters.

SciFi's "Tin Man" was just plain odd.

"Wicked" (the book), it's sequels and the play based on the book exist in their own side reality to the actual Oz continuity created by Baum.

I think that they had to tip toe around a bit on that Oz movie as they didn't own the rights to the original movie and had to avoid stepping on any of that copywrited stuff.

Which is probably why they (the makers of "Oz The Great And Powerful") took the smart route and went back to the books. There are elements that Time Warner would not be able to dispute the look or feel of since they would both have drawn off of the same source material. As long as the look was different enough from the Victor Fleming movie, there probably wasn't much Time Warner could do. Especially if they were to try to go up against Disney.

Remember, Disney is the company that ripped off "Kimba The White Lion" to create "The Lion King" and got away with it!

I saw Oz. I wasn't all that impressed with Kunis. Maybe it is because she falls in to that tone of voice she always had on that 70s Show and it takes me out of the movie. I kept expecting Ashton Kutcher to pop out and say "damn, Jackie!"

Good One! Especially now that Kunis and Klutcher are now dating....

Thanks for the excellent info on Oz, I didn't know any of the history from the books. And I remember me and my brother racing home from school to watch Kimba the White Lion!! Never really thought of the connection to The Lion King. Interesting.....

If I can find it again, I once saw a website that point for point showed everything from Kimba that was stolen for The Lion King, from Kimba to Kimba's father's death, the animal sidekicks, even the rock...

Yeah, Patty, it's pretty amazing that they got away with it scot free.

Now Disney is dipping into their own catalog, with remakes of both "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" and "The Black Hole" in the works. Disney even just made a very lucrative deal to shoot "20,000 Leaugues" in Australia, worth about $22 million US.

There are more reboots in the wings. :chin: Pardon my puns. Had anyone here watched "World War Z?" The plot line had strikingly similarities to "Land of the Dead." The "Lone Ranger" is coming to theaters near you. I won't be surprise if Zorro return to the big screen soon. Maybe Hollywood is now the recycle depot for obsolete series and movies?

To all Hollywood producers who might be reading this thread please take note. I have several original work you might want to gender. Please contact me, my blog, my Twitter or my Facebook page for details. I am open to offers.

Maybe not... But then you might never know who's reading this.
