Don't make me use my bare hands on you.
Saw Skyfall last night. Overall, I loved the movie as a James Bond movie. It had a coherent plot, which not all Bond movies have been successful with.

I don't want to give any real spoilers until others chime in, but I did notice one trivial thing. In the past, Bond's firearm was a Walther PPK with a low caliber, of around 7.6mm, I think. In this movie he is specifically given a 9mm. So, he has been upgraded to a pistol with some real stopping power I suppose.

And don't forget the most controversial bit of this film. He trades his trademark "shaken, not stirred" martini for a Heineken!

I didn't see a Heineken. He was at a bar in a casino in Macau and the bartender shook up a mixed drink of some sort for him and they made a point of showing that. I must have missed that.

Best Bond movie in years.

The more Craig plays the part, the more the whole series evokes the feeling of the Connery days. And with what we see in the closing minutes of the movie, the series has come almost full circle.

I hope they don't drag their feet in getting the next film out, I'd like to see them get at least two more out of Craig before he passes the mantle along to the next actor.

Bond can be forgiven for drinking a Heineken, though...after all, he was dead... ;)

Yeah, that's what I saw too. But there was some beer drinking as well.

When Bond is laying in bed with the girl in Macau, he's drinking from a distinctive Green bottle. Though his hand covers much of the label, it's clearly a Heineken.

This is not the same angle as you see in the film, but in this still the label is visible:

I agree with you on that as far as the tone of these latest go. I am still not wild about Craig. He does need to make more Bond-esque quips. However, the feel is much more akin to those of the early Connery films.

I like Craig's portrayal of Bond. He has definitely brought the Connery feel back to James Bond movies. He just doesn't look like a James Bond to me.

If you're familiar with the books, Bond's quips are usually more humorously sarcastic than plain funny.

Bond's chat with M at her flat was pure book Bond:

M: "Where the hell have you been?"

Bond: "Enjoying being dead."

Connery's quips early on fit that mold. Craig's haven't been there all that much, they have just been MIA. I think some of it is intentional bring the character more in line with the books and Connery's style and redevelop the character. I think they began to do that with Dalton's later efforts and throughout Brosnan's run. In the eighties especially the camp factor began to really take over, not that there aren't some real good Moore efforts.

Darkening his hair a bit is about all that would take. Moore's and Dalton's hair was lighter than Connery and Brosnan's. Craig is at the opposite end of that spectrum, and it is a factor in my taking him seriously in the role.
