You guys...

Here's the real thing...live from July 2008, the current lineup (Eric Bloom, Buck Dharma, Rudy Sarzo, Richie Castellano and Jules Radino) complete with Sarzo's bass solos and Radino's drum solo. A little fun in the middle recognizing the other bands Sarzo has played with:

Rudy is a monster too.
Indeed...and yet kind of short...always thought he was taller than he is.

Posted by JMICEMAN over at Excal on Monday...looks like the new movie is a go!

Legendary Pictures announced today that they will develop and produce a new film based on Toho Company’s famed Godzilla character. Through the terms of the agreement, Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a movie inspired by Toho’s Godzilla, a franchise the Japanese company created and has nurtured for over fifty years.
Toho’s Godzilla franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible. The company will, in the near future, announce a filmmaker to helm the film for an intended 2012 release. The film will fall under the company’s co-production and co-financing deal with Warner Bros. Toho will distribute the film in Japan.
“Godzilla is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise,” said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. “Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.”
“Godzilla is a signature Japanese character which we have nurtured over the years. It is a great honor to reach an agreement with Legendary Pictures, the parent to many a blockbuster film, and we are delighted in rebooting the character together to realize its much anticipated return by fans from all over the world,” comments Hideyuki Takai, President of Toho Co., Ltd. “We are anxious to find out where Godzilla’s new stomping will take us.”
“Godzilla is emblematic of the kind of branded, event films for which Warner Bros. and our partners at Legendary are best known. We have enjoyed a great deal of success together to date and this newest opportunity represents yet another chance for us to collaborate on a property that is very clearly in their wheelhouse,” said Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
In addition to Legendary, producers on the new film will be Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers. Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will Executive Produce.

And it almost sounds like they are going to basically ignore the '98 version. If so, good!

Apparently yet another reboot...

Pretty much none of the Japanese made movies after "Godzilla 2000" had any kind of a running continuity, unlike the ones made from "Godzilla 1985" to "Godzilla vs. Destroyah."

Hopefully the new US version will stick close to the ideas of the original "Gojira"...

Yep...that picture was on T-shirts at Comic Con, and if you went in front of the special camera they had, you would see the radioactive breath come from his mouth.

Well, we ought to know by now monsters in movies will never die. Even if it is just some guy in a rubber suit destroying models on a stage.

Wait a few years we might even see Godzilla in HD. Now that is an interesting idea... :headscratch:

Godzilla to Return to Theaters in May 2014

"Godzilla" is coming back to theaters in 2013. Reached for comment, the giant mutated lizard kept things simple: "Roar."

Warner Bros. announced on Thursday night that "Godzilla" will arrive on May 16, 2014. The studio had teased Godzilla's return with a well-received trailer at this year's Comic-Con. Per the AP:

The brief clip showed crumbling buildings, a flattened train and human bodies flattened like bugs, then a glimpse at the massive, multi-limbed monster. The clip closed with Godzilla's threatening roar.
Gareth Edwards will direct "Godzilla," which is set to be a real-world take on the famed monster. "['Godzilla'] will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner," the studio said in a statement to THR.

The creature first appeared in Ishirō Honda's 1954 film "Godzilla"; the last attempt to bring the daikaijū to the screen was in 1998, when Roland Emmerich directed "Godzilla." That film was a critical and commercial disappointment, grossing just $136 million in North America and $379 million worldwide. Ironically, Emmerich's "Godzilla" was released on May 20, 1998, just over 16 years to the day that Edwards' "Godzilla" will unspool.

For more reaction to the "Godzilla" footage screened at Comic-Con, check out the slideshow below.

Can't really see a giant, radioactive-fire breathing lizard going the "gritty, realistic" route, but I will settle for something that is not over the top campiness.
