Apparently we look like this now

I was looking around the net to see if a new Godzilla (Japanese) was scheduled to be made. I came across Godzilla 2010. I clicked on it, and it is actually a sequel to that 1998 Matthew Broderick piece of crap. They basically do a spoiler of the entire movie, which I read because I had no intention of seeing it. Click here It seems cheesy as hell, but as you read farther, it does have some promise. I think its real because I seriously doubt that someone would go through that much detail to make a fake. I may see it after the DVD release after all. Honestly, I didn't hate the 1998 version. I just thought they should have called it something other than Godzilla. This new movie seems to at least pay homage to the classics, but there are still many differences in "Godzilla" of old and this recreation. Its worth a read, and it may be worth seeing. Believe it or not Godzilla is still one of the most popular monsters in Japanese history despite its cheesy F/X and out dated plots and story lines. The 1998 Hollywood movie may had been a stinker in North America but the Godzilla franchise did made more B-movies in Japan since that time. I just don't see what is so appealing about some guy in a monster suit destroying models on a sound stage. Do you? Click here for a history of Godzilla movies.

I enjoyed the 1998 film. Cheesy in some points, sure, but isn't that kind of the point. You don't watch these films for the writing... |

I always preferred the Godzilla films in which Gamera made an appearance or two. There was just something about those battles from the 1960s that were classic. |

^^^ Gamera! Now there is a Japanese giant monster that I have not heard of in absolutely years! A fire breathing giant turtle that would obey children. Campy, but fun campy. |

Yes, I am quite the fan of Gamera. The effect of him spinning as he flew through the skies of Japan left an indelible impression on me. Those effects for the time were quite good in my opinion. |

Are they from the MegaGodzilla team? I hadn't heard from them in years. The last Godzilla movie I saw was the classic monster movie from the late 70s on SPACE quite some time ago. I wonder if they will bring these cheesy but quite harmless fun movies back into their line up of monster movies?

Gamera never appeared in any Godzilla movie, Fes...they were products of rival studios. You may be confused because one of the bully kids in "Godzilla's Revenge" (aka "Son of Godzilla") was named Gammera. The last Toho made Godzilla movie, 2004's "Godzilla: Final Wars" was basically a remake of "Destroy All Monsters." ![]() Gamera's latest appearance was in 2006's "Gamera The Brave" ![]()

^^^ I thought it was cool to see the 1998 Zilla in that film too. Godzilla made VERY short work of him. |

The whole fight between Godzilla and his American wannabe Zilla took a whole 17 seconds, with Big G destroying the Sydney Opera House and Zilla along with it. If you watch Godzilla 2000, you see some scenes are replications of the American movie, as if Toho was saying "Pay attention, this is how you do a kaiju movie!!"

The only thing I can say that I really liked about the American version of Godzilla was the look of the creature. |

If they weren't trying to promote the American creature as "Godzilla," I would say the idea behind it was great, and somewhat realistic. Give it another name and it probably would have done better. But they really should have tried to keep a little more of the classic look. I think what may have turned some people off was that it didn't look enough like the true Godzilla to be accepted as Godzilla.
