My Jeep Liberty, I mean. NO one was hurt. I am fine. He is fine - well, physically at least. I was turning left out of the college campus and got nailed before getting in the lane by a car coming through a red light from the right. Since I was the second car to go through the light turning left, it was clear from the outset, it wasn't my fault that I got hit. The guy's brakes partially failed according to him. Since the damage was not bad, I believe him when he says that he wasn't going all that fast when he hit me. There were, however, some pretty impressive skid marks. He was possibly exceeding the speed limit when he started braking. And since the first thing he did when he got out of his car was get a concrete block out of the back of the truck and put it behind his rear wheel, he knew he had a problem with the vehicle. He actually had a half dozen or so blocks in the back of the truck which the trooper took a picture while looking at the scene. My damage was limited to one door as far as I can tell and isn't something that can just be pounded out. Good chance, they will simply replace the door. The young man said it was his second accident in two weeks so his insurance is not going to be happy. The trooper told him that he was going to have to prove to him the brakes actually work or he was going to have to tow the truck. When I came back by the scene 20 minutes later, the trooper and the truck were still there. This morning I will have to make the first insurance claim in my life - on his insurance thank goodness. |

First of all I'm glad you're ok Wichita, that is the single most important thing. ![]() If he went through a 'red light' doesn't that in itself mean its his fault? I thought drivers were supposed to stop at red lights? I am admittedly speaking from the point of UK laws. I've noticed in some other countries that driving through red lights is more commonplace i.e. are people more encouraged to use their discretion, that it is not a hard & fast law, as it is in the UK? |

It's illegal to run a red light. People do it anyway, but it's not allowed. No discretion about it. ![]() Wichita, I'm glad you're ok! |

Glad you're safe! Thankfully you were in a Green Giant, and not like a Blue Smurf, or something, or it could have been a different story!

Blimey, glad you're ok! Do you have annual car checks for safety over there? We have one every year called the MOT. If it doesn't pass you can't drive that car on the road until it's fixed. |

Make them give you a nice courtesy car while they're fixing yours. I sure hope that under your insurance there are no costs to you. I've had about a dozen fender-bender/small collisions in my time. None of them were my fault, except for one. It's a lot worse if people get hurt, even if the accident isn't your fault. Glad you weren't hurt, so, I assume our cheques will be on time ? |

The Green Giant is in the shop as we speak. I have to say, Progressive Insurance (HIS insurance) has done a great job of moving things along quickly. I will reserve final judgment until I actually see the work. Damage was not extensive, but the bill will still be about a thousand total. I am currently driving around in ..... a blue Jeep! Checks will remain on the same schedule as always. |

Glad to hear you are not hurt Rose. I had an accident just a few days before I left on my vacation. Unfortunately that was my fault (first at fault for me ever - but that is why they are called accidents) A bad week for Sistertrek cars I guess. I hope my car is ready when I call the shop tomorrow. |

It must be in the air. Last December, I was backing out of a parking space and was hit by a brand new 2009 Mercedes Benz driven by an 18 year old. He was pretty mad at me. Long story short, I paid my $500 deductible but was happy to receive a letter from my insurance company (Allstate) telling me that matters were settled and that I should be getting my deductible back. Your car will look good as new Wichita. |
