IAEA says Syria may have had nuclear reactor; Soil samples contain man-made uranium

Recall that mysterious site Israel bombed about a year ago? Well recently the IAEA released information that the limited soil samples they were allowed to take contained heavy traces of manufactured uranium, and they had reason to suspect that the structure was a nuclear reactor.

Here is the INN article:

IAEA: Syrian Complex Resembled Nuke Plant

(IsraelNN.com) The Syrian building bombed by Israel in September 2007 bore features resembling those of an undeclared nuclear reactor and Syria must cooperate more with U.N. inspectors, according to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The report said "significant" amounts of uranium particles were found at the site by inspectors in June but that this was not enough to prove the existence of a reactor.

The confidential report, obtained Wednesday by Reuters, said the IAEA would ask Syria to show debris and equipment it whisked away from the site after the Israeli air raid.

This is just more propaganda put out by the Bush controlled IAEA. We are so over this. Other than Israel, there are not nukes anywhere in the Middle East, nor have there ever been. :brow:

Maybe, maybe not but I don't think it was claimed there were nukes there, just the necessary infrastructure to manufacture the ingrediants to build a warhead. Obviously it is in Israel's interests to deny that ability to nations with a hostile attitude to the existance of a Jewish state. Nations seldom if ever, resort to such outright military actions without at least a perceived national interest at stake.

Iran has now produced roughly enough nuclear material to make, with added purification, a single atom bomb, according to nuclear experts analyzing the latest report from global atomic inspectors.

The figures detailing Iran's progress were contained in a routine update on Wednesday from the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has been conducting inspections of the country's main nuclear plant at Natanz. The report concluded that as of early this month, Iran had made 630 kilograms, or about 1,390 pounds, of low-enriched uranium.

Several experts said that was enough for a bomb, but they cautioned that the milestone was mostly symbolic, because Iran would have to take additional steps. Not only would it have to breach its international agreements and kick out the inspectors, but it would also have to further purify the fuel and put it into a warhead design — a technical advance that Western experts are unsure Iran has yet achieved.

"They clearly have enough material for a bomb," said Richard Garwin, a top nuclear physicist who helped invent the hydrogen bomb and has advised Washington for decades. "They know how to do the enrichment. Whether they know how to design a bomb, well, that's another matter."

Yes, there are no nuclear programs in the Middle East. None. Never will be.

It has been reported today that Syria is not allowing the IAEA to come back to do anymore investigations.

Syria Rules Out Another IAEA Visit

(IsraelNN.com) Syrian officials said Friday that they would not allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials to visit a site that allegedly contained a secret nuclear program. IAEA inspectors said they had requested further visits to the site after discovering suspiciously high levels of radioactive material during a previous visit.

The site was bombed by Israel in 2007, and officials in Israel and the United States said the site had housed a facility in which North Korean and Syrian scientists were working together to develop nuclear weapons. Syrian officials said the site had housed a military base.
