SOME claim that Adam Smith advocated a progressive income tax when he said in The Wealth of Nations, "It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion." But there is no doubt Karl Marx wanted a heavily progressive income tax, a centralized government ran education system, a state bank, confiscation of inheritance, centralized control of the transportation, centralized control of communication...
