Note that McCain and Republicans were far more gracious in defeat than this thread is in "celebrating victory." http://www.slate.com/id/2203861/ |

Congratulations to Barack Obama! Obviously, his win makes me happy since I voted for him. Congratulations to everyone here who was able to vote. I was pretty in awe as the results came in last night. The states Obama was able to win (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida). These are very exciting times. |

The Democrats do have control of both Houses of Congress. They've already had it for Bush's whole second term. Not only that, they gained seats last night. Just some advice, your anti-Americanism and anti-conservatism would probably be taken with more respect if it sounded like you actually were aware of basic facts about this nation before you shoot off...Actually, I'm not so upset Obama is president. In reality, NO ONE, Democrat - Republican - or other - no one knows what he will do. All we've heard is rhetoric about "change." He has no history, no track record, no experience. He could be excellent. He could be the biggest flop since Hoover. At least with McCain, we knew what we would be getting. I, however, am extremely nervous that the Democrats have strengthened their hold in Congress, given that a Democrat now occupies the White House. However, if things don't change in two years (which will be hard to do...and I admit that is perhaps an unrealistic expectation on Obama), then the Republicans are poised to make major gains in Congress in 2010. Kind of like what happened in 1994 after two years of Clinton. Speaking of that, for me, that is what it comes down to. We survived 8 years of Clinton. If we can do that, surely we can get by with Obama. |

Your comparison is highly unfair. Obama was extremely respectful with his comments last night about McCain, and I don’t recall any boos in the audience directed towards McCain. Can’t say the same for those in the audience listening to McCain during his concession speech. What’s important, is the two main candidates acted like gentlemen. Why don’t you compare that instead? |

Well, your two choices do not seem to be working. Why didn't you do two separate polls, since the latter issue seems to be such a big deal with you? Considering the time you've spent in here lately, I'm sure another minute wouldn't have mattered, would it? |

If you were only thinking of two posters you probably should not have made the statement. There are a lot more then two posters celebrating Obama's win. Oh - and in another thread Somerled actually made a nice comment about McCain's concession speech.......... |

I wonder if the Bush staff will sack the White House and break all the "H" keys off all the keyboards? It's interesting the dumb ol' football fans at other message board that Frimp and I frequent, those "uneducated, ignorant, and slovenly" sports fanatics, are handling the win with far more class than some of the "educated, enlightened and worldly liberals here. I used to come here for the mature political talk, but in the past week or two, that's where I've been going to escape the crud here.

Time to put something here
|
Now that Obama has won my only hope is that my doubts are incorrect about him and that he is the man he says he is. If that happens I can be happy about the outcome. My fear is that we really don’t know who Obama is and judging by what I have read in his acceptance speech he is leaving the door open to go any which way he wants during his presidency. That’s a bit scary: It could turn out fin and I’m worried about nothing, but it could be very bad for the country. Oh and I guess I should mention it's good to see a Black president for what ever that is worth. At least it proves we have moved forward as a country in the last century. I guess the fact that this is just an after thought is even better since it means Obama was seen by and large as just another guy running for president for most people (most people I know anyway). What I really want to see is the hate associated with politics evaporate; I have been very disappointed with the country the last 8 years because of its decisiveness and the extremely sore feelings brought about by the loss of an election. I hope that can go away now. I'll do my part, while I didn’t vote for Obama he is most certainly my president and you can blame me for anything he may or may not do. |

I really feel for Senator McCain. He looked almost embarrassed when his supporters booed Obama. I feel that he seems to have given up his independence to connected with the rabid base of the Republican party. I feel for all the Republicans whose party has been hijacked and utterly destroyed by social conservatives and religious whack jobs. Power hungry cynics like Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and the Bush family were all too happy to take advantage of these divisive issues. When they won 8 years ago, you didn't hear any kind of unifying theme, no "let's work together", no call to arms to do something great together as one nation. Instead what we heard was "we won, so f*ck you," and then came the lowest possible form of attack, calling the other side "american haters", and questioning their patriotism. I feel as a leader, Bush doesn't even know the meaning of the word "inspiration". His main theme was to tell everybody to just go home, that he knows best what to do, and leave the governing to him. Everybody can see what that did for the country. Call it what you will, but Obama did bring large parts of the population together without a rapid hatred of the other party. Anyway, I hope you can get your party back, Republicans, or at least evolve into a new and better one. I hope you can leave the willful ignorance of the Sarah Palins of your party behind to labor in obscurity, and to drown in the swill of their own hatred. |

Isn't that what the Demarats did in 2000? when the lost the White House? I feel for Bush, that people have been un-caring toward him. I think its down right rude, in fact when he ran for President people treated him like dirt. I am an independant, I went to a Gore rally they booed Bush. I went to a Bush rally no one was booed. The Demaratic party is full of "whack jobs". I voted McCain, and interested to know how President-elect Obama will do in office. I actually like the guy but don't like who are advising him. |

And these comments are a microcosm of the attitude on the left that is the real problem. Let's put it this way... I feel for all the democrat whose party has been hijacked and utterly destroyed by social liberals and Marxist whack jobs. Power hungry cynics like Nancy Pelosi, Jack Murtha, and the Kennedy family were all too happy to take advantage of these divisive issues. |

How about this Dwayne, you give me concrete example of Marxism within the Democratic members. That way, I'll drop my misplaced idealism of Obama and admit that I am a communist from Canada. All power to the Soviets! Here's a small list of divisive issues that I can think of the top of my head: Gay marriage War of drugs War of terrorism Anti-Americanism/Freedom fries "Real" America Warrantless wiretapping/ATT immunity GITMO Clean Air Act 9/11 Iraq (It's like a market in America, right?) |

You're damn right I'm uncaring about him. Him and his executives basically suspended parts of your constitution. The only thing that protects you from the government. |
