I was in and out in about 15 minutes…no wait at all. But we did not have machines. That and the fact I live in a bedroom community of only about 6,000 is probably why I had no wait. They checked my name off at the table (no ID required), and gave me a paper ballot and pen. Had to fill-in manually about a dozen bubbles (no straight ticket voting option in Illinois). They had plenty of “private” tables lined up around the room. Then I took my ballot and stood in a line for all of 45 seconds to feed my ballot into a machine for tallying. I went in about an hour and 45 minutes after the polls opened. The machine that took my ballot said that it was the 215th ballot. :P

I had never heard of the straight ticket voting option before this thread.

We're so behind the times in Washington. We didn't have to register with a party to vote in the primaries until recently. Now we have a "top two" primary. Whichever two candidates get the most votes in the primary, regardless of party, make the ballot for the general election.

Okay two very different headlines from two different sources:

Scattered problems reported in historic U.S. vote

AND,

Broken Machines, Shortages Plague Voters Around the Country

I just find the second one funny. I mean, "Plague Voters"??? Give me a break.

I have to say, even though I admit I did not experience any problems, nor am I aware of any in the Springfield area, I personally would not complain about having to wait in line because of crowds or malfunctioning machines. I mean, I wish peolpe and the media would keep things in perspective. We have the privilage of voting for our government. Many others around this world do not.

Oh, the first headline is CNN and the second is FoxNews...
