...democrats always see problems with the country irrespective whether or not they are in power.
And... the problems they see are always only fixable by bigger government and more government spending.

If you think about this for half a second you realise just how stupid the content of the opening post is.

You would expect a party that has been out of office for 8 years to be highlighting what they think is wrong with the country. If they thought the other lot had got it 100% right why would they be bothering to run against them?

More than that you would expect any politician to be talking about what is wrong with the country and how they are going to address that. Even incumbents do it. If they thought everything was sorted, everything was perfect they could just pack up and go home.

Most people get into politics because they dont like how things are and want to change them. Few people get into politics because they think everything is perfect and want to keep everything as it is.

Newsflash - America is not a perfect utopia governed in a perfect fashion. No country has achieved that. Not even the UK ;) One of America's greatest strengths however is its ability to debate what is going wrong and to change and adapt to make things better.

That is the star quality of representative electorally based systems of government (I hesitate to use representative democracies because I know people here dislike that term applied to the United States). Unlike in a dictatorship where changes are only made at the whim of the dictator(s) in a representative system we have the right to say - this is wrong, change it!
Um, there is one flaw in your logic... democrats always see problems with the country irrespective whether or not they are in power.
That is simply not true.

However, you would say bad things about Democrats no matter what. Your bias is so obvious that it harms others view of your opinion.

This is all a bit of an illusion. One of the main themes that I often hear from the American right is the "breakdown of morality" and "traditional values" and so on, to be subsequently blamed on liberals, the left wing media, but not on irrational religious beliefs or the huge corporate entertainment industry which pretty well gets around to defiling everything.

The right criticize their own culture all the time, but do it in a more passive-aggressive style. And as far as Obama is concerned, his campaign has been quite upbeat, but you can't expect him to provoke interest in his candicacy with a laid-back 'everything is fine' message.

The right and the liberal/left even in Canada have always had this attitude of a kind of "right to rule" mentality. Shocked when they are put out of office, and when losing their power often turn to "complicated" theories instead of the simple answer: "we're tired of you. We're going to try the other brand for a while".

Heh.

Now that is a completely silly request.

Obama has said lots of good things during the race. I am not going to provide links.

Everything I've heard was things like "I'm going to make America the great nation that it once was!"

Who is saying this? Democrats? Republicans? Obama?

I'm not sure.

I believe it is The Messiah. He's been saying the same thing for months.

And Min, McCain does say he will fix what is broken. What is absent in McCain's speeches is the constant belittling the US.

You mean better than the US is right now? I really wish McCain had asked him that in a debate.

So when one candidate says it you interpret it as "belittling" when the other does it you find it ok.

Honestly I just think you are buying into a partisan interpretation here.

No, I take them for what they say. Obama keeps saying that we aren't as good as we used to be. McCain says that this is a great nation.

However, many agree with Obama.

It's not wrong for him to state his opinion that things were better at a different time.

Besides - I think this is all just smoke and mirrors. When Michelle Obama said she was proud of her country now she got attacked from all corners for not being proud of the past. No matter what the Democrats say someone puts a spin on it to make it bad.
