Discuss the games & the movies here. Resident Evil 4 Called 'Ultraviolent' Resident Evil 4 and God of War were on the list of the top 10 most violent video games as rated by the Family Media Guide, the GameSpot Web site reported. The ratings, based on the watchdog group's assessment of game content provided by its sister company, PSVratings, were released on Thanksgiving, at the start of the holiday shopping season, the site reported. This year's list included what the group called "some of the most ultraviolent video games ever created." The top 10 games, in no particular order, also included the non-SF&F games Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, NARC, Killer 7, The Warriors, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Crime Life: Gang Wars, Condemned: Criminal Origins and True Crime: New York City. |

Setting the record straight, Milla Jovovich recently insisted the third "Resident Evil" film will be called "Afterlife" instead of "Extinction," and that reports (including those on her own Web site) of the film concluding in Japan are bogus. "I don't get to go on the Web site all the time and make sure things are right, but it doesn't end in Japan, that's for sure," Jovovich grinned. "We're gonna start filming in March, and it's really cool. The script is great; it's different and it's got some really interesting elements to it. It's going to be very different than any of the other 'Resident Evil's. ... It's gonna be like 'Resident Evil' meets 'Mad Max.' " ... |

Milla Jovovich Makes Her Case For Being Every Geek's Dream Girl Model/actress knows her sci-fi, 'Simpsons' and swordplay. by Larry Carroll Milla Jovovich as Violet in "Ultraviolet" (Jay Maidment) Milla Jovovich sure has an impressive array of weapons at her disposal. A quirky actress, buff action star, stunning supermodel, successful clothing designer and occasional musician, the Russian-born beauty has been wise beyond her years ever since she became one of Revlon's "Most Beautiful Women in the World" at age 12. Such an abbreviated childhood might explain why she was drawn to "Ultraviolet," in which she plays Violet, a geek-targeted creation with some equally impressive weapons of her own. Chief among them, though, is a sword. "A lot of the martial arts that we used for this movie was based on Wu-Shu, which is a very fluid, floral style of martial arts," the actress said, her blue-green eyes brimming with enthusiasm. "You do a lot of sword-spinning, a lot of tricks with the sword. It's much more visual; it's not really the thing that wins at cage fighting. All those fluid, floral people usually get knocked down, because it is such a visual fighting style. "It's only in 'Mortal Kombat' games that the expert of Wu-Shu actually kills people," Jovovich laughed, revealing her refreshingly authentic appreciation of the games, graphic novels and gore that mean so much to her fans. "It was very challenging because I never had to be a dancer when I fought [in other movies], and in this situation I had to have the fluidity of a dancer, but the toughness of a street fighter." |

In conversation, Jovovich rapidly, randomly veers from discussing aliens and mutants to pop music and games with the type of enthusiasm one might expect from a 300-pound man in a Raisinets-stained Doctor Who T-shirt. But she's one of the world's most beautiful women, and is genuinely jazzed about "Ultraviolet," a futuristic tale of a genetically enhanced rogue warrior avenging the Orwellian government that created her. "Well, it's hard," she complained, making her interviewer think that a bluff has been called with a question about how Violet would fare against her "Resident Evil" character, Alice. As a devilish grin crosses her face, however, it becomes clear that Jovovich was just warming up. "Both of them are really tough and really cool. It depends, 'cause Alice now is sort of part zombie in a way, so she's got this whole other genetic thing that's going on. So is it post-Alice, with the whole zombie thing?" When the criteria was narrowed down to the Alice who currently exists between "Apocalypse" and the soon-to-shoot third "Resident Evil" film, she jumped back in with her breathless analysis. "Oh, OK, well it would be a close one," Jovovich beamed. "Violet could definitely outmaneuver Alice any day. You wouldn't be able to catch Violet. Whereas Alice is very like ..." Suddenly, the interview was lost again, this time in a torrent of flying fists and vocal special effects that would make Michael Winslow from "Police Academy" envious. Giggling, she announced her victor thusly: "Alice probably, if she caught Violet, could just pummel her. But she would have trouble catching her." In case there are still some genre-loving dorks out there who haven't already placed Jovovich's name above those of Portman, Beckinsale and Ricci on their dream-girl lists, it should also be pointed out that she also picked up the badass "Ultraviolet" swords in the room and performed a stunning, spontaneous display of her skills. No special effects, no quick cuts - Jovovich's muscles flexed and her sword twirled, leaving no one in the room doubting that she is in fact the real deal. |

"I'd get home from rehearsal after a six- to eight-hour day and I was expected to do three hours on my own in my hotel room," Jovovich said of the extreme lengths director Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium") made her go through in China's five-star Grand Hyatt. "Did I break anything?" she laughed, when asked about damage to her hotel room. "What didn't I break? That hotel was so sick of me by the time I left. I stayed in this gorgeous suite with a view of the bay of Hong Kong, and I swear to God you could see on the ceiling so many notches from where I'd been flipping my sword and it flew out of my hand. And all my friends would be ducking and they'd say, 'Oh, Milla's practicing again.' " In the end, it was Violet's swords, knife-spewing guns and innovative battle techniques that captivated Jovovich's considerable inner child. Listening to her laughingly refer to the film as the action flick that John Cassavetes was never able to make, it became quite clear that this childlike geek girl wants to have a child of her own. "The backbone of this whole idea was a modern-day 'Gloria,' which is a movie with Gena Rowlands back in the early '80s where she plays this tough woman," Jovovich revealed. "She has no kids and suddenly her friend thrusts her son into the apartment saying, 'They're trying to catch me' and ...Gena Rowlands has to take care of this kid. It's this great dichotomy between this tough woman and this innocent child." The "Ultraviolet" script boasts a similar dynamic between Violet and a little boy named Six, played by young Cameron Bright, who bonded with Jovovich during epic discussions of their favorite episodes of "The Simpsons." "I've been working since I was a little kid, so for me my career has always been number one," the actress insisted. "But now, I'm 30 years old and I'm starting to think, like, 'Who's going to be the man in my life? When am I going to have kids?' " 'Ultraviolet' really resounded in me because of that," Jovovich continued, getting more serious but no less energetic. "My mom was 24 when she had me. I'm 30 years old and I'm going, 'Oh my God, I'm gonna be an old mom.' ... Now I'm thinking that a child might balance a lot of things in my life, 'cause I'd be like, 'Oh I thought [my career] was really important, but it's so not important actually.' Jovovich Talks Evil 3 Milla Jovovich told SCI FI Wire that she's eagerly awaiting the start of the third installment of the Resident Evil series, which will begin shooting in May. She said that her character, Alice, is going to have a lot more action and special powers in the sequel Resident Evil: Extinction, which will again be written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Alien vs. Predator). "Well, definitely, Alice has changed a bit, and so we can expect some crazy new stuff," Jovovich revealed about her character, who again battles zombie-like mutants created by a virus that broke out in a secret facility called the Hive. The Resident Evil films are based on the popular video-game franchise, and this one will bring back Alice's comrade-in-arms Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), who was introduced in the second film. The third film will shoot in Toronto. "The script is awesome, and it's going to be really good," Jovovich said. "I don't want to say too much, because I really haven't talked to them about what I can and can't say. I would tell you the whole story, but I'm not sure I can. would tell you everything, but I can't." Jovovich is staying fit to be able to do the stunt work and fighting that she's done in both Resident Evil films and her SF action movie Ultraviolet, which opened March 3. In that film, Jovovich plays a character named Violet, who shoots guns and fights with a sword. But Alice will evolve into something more like a superhero. "She has some crazy new powers," Jovovich said with a laugh. |

Resident Evil’s Milla Jovovich Pics: http://boloround.wordpress.com/2006/12/01/milla-jovovich-2/ Larter Kicks Butt In Resident III Ali Larter (NBC's Heroes) told SCI FI Wire that she enters major butt-kicking mode in the upcoming SF horror-action film Resident Evil: Extinction. Larter joins Resident Evil veteran Milla Jovovich in the third film based on the Capcom video-game franchise. "Alice [Jovovich] comes back, and I play Claire Redfield, who's the head of this convoy that's traveling through the Nevada desert, pretty much after an apocalypse," Jovovich said in an interview. "We're just trying to survive [the latest encounter with mutant zombies]. It's survival of the fittest at this point, and it ends up being about who's actually going to be able to make it during this very difficult time on Earth. It gets pretty bloody." Extinction is the third film in the series, in which a top-secret government virus has escaped and transformed humans into flesh-eating zombies. To shoot the movie, "we went down to Mexicali, which is maybe the hottest place on Earth," Larter said. "I have pictures of me holding a thermometer, and it says 125 degrees. It was brutally hot. But it's fun to play these kinds of characters. I was able to run away, shoot some guns and have a great time with the other actors. It's also really fun to be in movies that people love to see. You can't take yourself that seriously all the time." Resident Evil: Extinction will be released in September 2007. Larter can be seen in Heroes on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. http://www.scifi.com/heroes/ Resident Evil’s Milla Jovovich: http://boloround.wordpress.com/2006/11/16/milla-jovovich/ |

A new trailer has gone live for Resident Evil: Extinction, and it's linked through SCI FI Wire's Trailers page. http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=8 Fehr: Evil Is New Again Oded Fehr, who reprises the role of Carlos Olivera in the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction, told SCI FI Wire that the latest installment in the video-game-inspired franchise takes things in an entirely new direction. "I think what [writer] Paul [W.S. Anderson] did, ... he has that sense of ... the terror of the zombies and all that and all the excitement and so on, but what he did this time around, he set it in a very kind of Mad Max kind of situation," Fehr said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco over the weekend. "There's only a few of us left in the world." In Extinction, there are only a few survivors left from the Raccoon City catastrophe of the first two Resident Evil films, traveling across the Nevada desert on their way to refuge in Alaska. Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Fehr's former commando join the caravan, which is led by Claire Redfield (Heroes' Ali Larter). Fehr's character is more burned out this time around, he said. "What I like about the character is that ... he went through the last movie, he saw a lot, he went through a lot, he's kind of a little bit numb [to] it all, you know?" Fehr said. "He kind of survives and just gets on with it, without allowing any kind of emotions to take over him. And then when Ali shows up, he has a special relationship with her, and all of a sudden that kind of wakes things up again." The film also has its share of action and thrills. "There's just constant movement," Fehr said. "Constant movement throughout the film. You have that feel of, like, there's nobody left but us, ... and every person that dies, it's a terrible loss. And then again, the ... new characters that [are] brought in, [Anderson] wrote these really great, eccentric characters and all different ones. So it's very exciting. It was a great read when I first read it." Resident Evil: Extinction opens Sept. 21. Larter Kicks A In Resident III Ali Larter told SCI FI Wire that she plays one of two kickass female heroes in the upcoming SF sequel film Resident Evil: Extinction. "I play a character called Claire Redfield, and she's a really strong, confident individual," Larter (NBC's Heroes) said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco over the weekend. "You know, they're living in a post-apocalyptic world, so there's not really time for emotions or feelings or things like that to come into play. You could maybe think that she's hard, but the truth is she has to hold it together for everyone. You know, she plays the mother to some, the leader to others. She definitely takes on the different roles that she needs to, and I think that's probably something that I liked most about her and the idea of playing her." In Resident Evil: Extinction, the second sequel in the video-game-inspired franchise, Larter's Redfield is the leader of a group of refugees fleeing the zombies created by the release of the evil Umbrella Corp.'s virus. She joins up with Alice (Milla Jovovich), the heroine of the previous two films. "I think that that's the coolest thing about the genre is that there can be two strong female leads," Larter said. "I mean, you don't get to see that in a lot of movies. And that's what I think was the most fun for me. One of the girls doesn't have to be dumbed down. ... We both get in there. We both kick butt, you know, and I think that was fun, and I just really respond to playing these kinds of women." Larter shot Resident Evil: Extinction last year, before she shot the pilot for Heroes, in the heat of Mexicali in Mexico's Baja California desert. "128 degrees," she said. "And all that plays in, you know? ... When you're in the heat, it brings a bit of realism to a movie like this. I mean, we're not getting sprayed down to look sweaty. We are sweating, you know? And we're just hoping it's sweaty-sexy and not sweaty-gross." Resident Evil: Extinction opens Sept. 21. |
