Night Shyamalan (Six Sense) is said to direct Avatar: The Last Airbender. And Leonardo Dicaprio is both producing and starting in Akira! Honestly, why Avatar? Avatar to me honestly is crap. It's like The Fifth Element meets The Indians. lol Even though i'm sure M. Night will make it better than the anime. It can't make it worse in my opinion. However, it's all riding on Speed Racer. If Speed Racer brings the big bucks then we'll see the same following like the comics book-based movies did. If it doesn't we'll still see them made but nothing else will be done after it.

C_Beyond ((chunsa oppa)) Posts: 10,993 Group: Admin Member #8 Joined: June 22, 2003	wow...u really hate avatar lol i'm the opposite end...i love avatar...its a great series, well drawn, good storyline...oh wells i could see them making an avatar movie...but why mess with two masterpieces of anime, ghost in the shell, and akira. it just doesnt make sense. anime is an art form which does not transfer well to live action at all unless its in a comedic fashion. i mean, they're big names, leo and spielberg, and if anyone could come close to doing it, thats not a japanese director, its them.

I think anything can translate to live action. It has to be done right, though. We'll have to wait and see cause critically Speed Racer has been received well but it didn't bring the big bucks at the box office. So, this could may well end anime adaptations as we know it...

C_Beyond ((chunsa oppa)) Posts: 10,993 Group: Admin Member #8 Joined: June 22, 2003	speed racer is an adaptation of an old anime...the anime style of the late 60s and early 70s are different than the anime we know today, thus lending itself to a more approachable form of adaptation. i do hope it succeeds.

It's looking pretty cool and Justin Chatwin might just pull it off. But, apparently the movie's release date changed cause it's coming out in April 09... -_- Not like i want this thing to be rushed... but, studios shouldn't give datea they can't promise. I don't think any of us have seen Speed Racer which is the only one that can be put as a "live acton cartoon" so no, Angus.

Night Shyamalan is gonna make an Avatar movie. they recently aired the series finale, and it was really good. i dont know how he can make a good movie out of the avater series, we'll see, its got to have lots of special effects. as for the DBZ movie, i dont know what to say...Chow Yun Fat is in it, i dont know why, but he does add some credibility to the buzz factor.
