Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games - Nintendo Wii Posted Image Rated “E” for “Everyone” Tired of “Wii Sports?” Tired of “Wii Play?” Tired of anything similar on the Wii that is full of mini games? Well…here is one more for you. Tying in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Nintendo and Sega bring you the first official team up of one time rivals, Mario and Sonic. Mario’s party and Sonic’s team join and battle it out for Olympic gold. How lucky is Beijing to experience this competition. Choose from 1 of the initial 16 to take first place bragging rights home to The Mushroom Kingdom or Mobius. 8 from the world of Mario (Mario, Peach, Bowser, etc) and 8 from the world of Sonic (Sonic, Amy, Dr. Eggman, and a few somewhat memorable characters from Knuckles Chaotix). Each are divided in different stat aspects, but that may not matter in the end to you depending on your skill level. Pick your favorite character and go for the gold. Posted Image Events are like what you would see at a normal Olympic event. Ranging from track and field events, skeet shooting, fencing, gymnastics, and more; watch as your characters dash, jump, and earn applause from the crowds while breaking world records. Posted Image There really is not much to this game except…the games. Play them alone versus the CPU or play them together with up to 4 players…and then play them again till you are tired. There are a few unlockables by playing and achieving gold such as emblems, trophies, and even more events. Posted Image The control scheme is a mix of hit-and-miss. As simple as they are, you may find yourself getting tired from repetitive alternating of hand motions. While this only applies to a few events, other game control mechanics work well and feel fun instead of just a task of rapidly going through the motions. Posted Image The first mesh of Mario and Sonic is not the best that people would hope for, but it is not even that bad. Like in the beginning of the review, if you are tired of “Wii Sports” and any other similar incarnation, at least this one has familiar characters instead of expressionless Miis.
